first off, loved the movie. I liked the first two but didn't like the childish and silly tones.

this was very dark and all action and I loved it.

question- when Legolas told the elf guy he was not going back, he told Legolas to go find "Strider".

isn't this 60 years before LOTR? how the hell old is Aragorn? didn't make sense to me, hoping someone can clear this up

Aragorn is in his 80s during LOTR. It's talked about during the Two Towers.

If you go by the books, he was approximately 10 at the time. In the Two Towers he tells Eowyn that he is 87. That would put him closer to 20 or 30 at the time according to the movie. But in the book, if I recall correctly, from the time Frodo acquired the ring until the time he left the Shire 17 years had gone by.

Extended scenes, though.

That threw me for a loop as well. I didnt remembering Stryder being in his 80s. I was trying to figure out how Legalos was going to go find him 60 yrs before LOTR

I don't remember him in the movie? Was he there.

But Aragorn is one of the few people left who had unnaturally long life.

Middle Earth has a different concept of time than we do. Smeagol is over 500 years old, I think Gandalf is around 900 and Elrond is around 5000 years old.

Yep, he's a Dunedain. Blessed with long life. Descendant of the Numenoreans who resisted Sauron's attempt to use them to attack The Undying Lands. Interesting story should you ever want to look into it.

I've read all 3 of the LOTR books and the Hobbit but I don't remember this.

The Silmarillion is on my kindle and is on my reading list. I hope to get to it very soon, but things like this get pushed way aside during the school year.

Here's the cliffs. When you can, read Silmarillion. It'll flesh it out even more.

sicboy had it right with his pic...I don't remember Legolas or the hot elf in The Hobbit I read when I was a kid....this is just Jackson's way of tying in the movies, which he wouldn't have to do if he had just done the Hobbit first but I digress...

While the character is not in the book, Legolas is the son of Thranduil. So you could assume that he was probably there, even if his name wasn't mentioned in the book.

Gandalf is over 7,000 years old.

Ian McKellan says as much in one of the interviews.
