FRIDAY UPDATE
Temps rose overnight to around 35 degrees due to thicker than expected cloud cover. Thus, only some rain today and maybe a few brief sleet pellets.
North of St. Francisville, however, will have ice.

UPDATE - 10:46 PM

Special Statement
Statement as of 4:12 PM CST on January 08, 2015
...Light mix of wintry precipitation possible Friday morning...

There is a slight chance of a light mix of wintry precipitation Friday morning primarily along and north of a line from Bayou Sorrel to Prairieville to Bogalusa. The chance of precipitation will increase throughout the day and the main question is whether precipitation will begin when temperatures are still low enough to support freezing rain or sleet. Even if any sleet or freezing rain does occur...there is no accumulation of ice currently forecast and impacts...if any...should be minimal. If accumulation of ice becomes more likely...a Winter Weather Advisory will be issued later this evening or tonight. Any precipitation should transition to all rain by the early afternoon.

fricking trained weather men rarely get a forecast right. I'll be damned if I take the word of some dumbass model.

What's hilarious is that most of the time, the weather man is right.

It's not the official forecast. It's models. Winter precipitation is always extremely tough to forecast because it's so tricky. These are just models but I've been keeping an eye on them all week and they've progressively gone from no precip and warmer to more and more precip and colder to now some frozen precipitation and freezing temps.

You can always get a sense of what the official forecast will change to by following model trends. Already the official forecast high on Friday went from partly cloudy and 49, to 48, to 47, to now 43 and rain starting in the afternoon.

Was that a serious question?

I was hoping that actual models were hinting at this. Thread fail.

I'm with ya. I look at the same stuff several times a day on tropicaltidbits, talk weather southeast, etc.
The guy on NOAA writes a killer forecast discussion too.

Winter weather is the hardest of all weather to forecast accurately. We could just be cold and cloudy or we could very well end up having a moderate icing event Friday evening.

Its just the GFS. By tomorrow they will be showing no moisture at all. Been trending drier and drier over the past few days. Plus youre talking about a model that has given the deep south a couple of massive winter storms this month already and of course have had nothing. Not to mention the numerous cat 5's in the gulf that hit SE LA every season.
