Some things people don't realize you can do by adding more phrases like:
'set a ONE TIME alarm for 7:05pm today' (so it wont permanently repeat daily)
'whats this song?' (no need to waste home screen space with a widget)
'text [person] message [your text message]' (for years i would say text so-and-so, then after it found them i would say my message. what a waste of time) -- addendum, if you only have one person with the first name (like nathan) you don't have to say their full name either.
'play music' (will just crank up a randomized mix of all your google music)
what other cool voice tricks have you learned?

I've started using "make a note" more and more

I use it for reminders, alarms, and timers a lot.

Which phone do yall have that allows yall to do this?

Nexus 6 here
One minor annoyance is that I can't specifically tell it to send a Hangouts message. I have SMS and hangouts all together, and I use hangouts to message my wife since I don't have unlimited SMS, but if I tell Google to message her it still defaults to SMS.

you could always delete your wife's phone # from her contact profile and create a second one to use for SMS. then you could call 'wife sms' or just 'wife' for hangouts.
just a thought.
just a thought.

I was gonna say that's a genius idea and was sure it would work. But actually, it did not. Google won't send anything if there's no phone number. Oh well, not like I used that feature a lot anyway.

I have a Note4. How do I use any of this?

Say..Ok Google...
IF that does not work:
Make sure you have the latest version of the Google app. (To get the latest version, go to the Google app page on the Play Store and touch Update).
Open the Google app .
Touch Menu Menu > Settings > Voice.
Touch “Ok Google” detection.
Check the boxes next to "From Google app" and "Always-on."
Follow the instructions to teach Google what your voice sounds like.

No idea what the interface is like on the Note 4, but on stock lollipop it's all under Google settings. "OK Google" detection

When I'm deciding what to wear in the morning I ask "what is the temperature outside today?" and it pulls it up and reads the temperature.. handy this time of year. While changing into work clothes, I sometimes remember something I need to take care of at work that needs priority.. I tell the phone "remind me at to do 'blah' at 9am". I use it for cooking a lot, setting a timer and what not.
The smarter voice commands get, the more convenient the phone becomes. It's really amazing.

Oh yeah, that and location-based reminders in the rare instances I go to the office or something (Remind me to get blah when I'm at work).

I'm currently using the S4 and once I realized how good the voice recognition is I basically used it for everything. I even asked it to translate something into German a couple of weeks ago with "Say what time is it in German". It even sounded out the German translation for me.
Now why Google Voice can't transcribe voicemails worth a damn, I have no idea.

Great thread. I just got a Note 4 and am playing with this right now. On my note 4 I have the google microphone right on my home screen, do you have to at least tap it to start, or is there a default voice command that will open the app and start a search or whatever (I'm thinking of in the car driving).
Also, my wife has a S5 active and I don't see the google microphone on her home screen, and I can't figure out how to add it there. Any advice?

"Do I need an umbrella today?"
(In Disney World) "How tall do you have to be to ride Space Mountain?"
"What's the score of the Rose Bowl?"
"Call Albasha's Greek and Lebanese"
"Navigate to Chick Fil A"
(Prior to making an overseas call) "What time is it in Paris?"
Too many others to list. You can also type these in Google Search if you don't wanna sound like a goober in public.

On a Moto X or Droid Turbo I find the Moto actions make the normal
Google commands even better & seamlessly integrated.
