i think rendezvous with rama would translate well to film, especially with the unique setting. morgan freeman has even mentioned his desire for a rama film in a few interviews.
also, although they've already been done, i think a re-imagining of dune or conan would be cool to see
thoughts?

The early Elijay Bailey detective novels by Asimov - easily my choice. Would require some heavy CGI in my opinion. Could lead right into the Foundation movies as well - and they need a setup.
The thing about good sci-fi is the lack of action sequences but Caves of Steel & The Naked Sun brought science fiction into the action genre.
An Earth so heavily populated with most living under domes is fascinating. Some of the first novels written about a Galactic Empire (sorry Star Wars) and artificial intelligence equal to, or even a bit smarter than us - in Bailey's robot partner - and one of the first that can almost pass for human.
Will probably never see them though.

Yes. Rendezvous with Rama could actually be a good sequel to Interstellar!!! Some guy a while back made a short CGI video of his interpretation of Rendezvous with Rama, and that seemed cool! A movie should be made!
Also, District 9 I thought looked a lot like Childhood's End in it's first trailer. It certainly wasn't, but that is a good one to make a movie of.

The thing about Thomas Covenant . . . not sure people can follow a rapist leper.
The Gap books by Donaldson are freaking awesome (and has the best dark protagonist name ever - Angus Thermopyle) - but again, he has a thing for rape in his dark heroes.

Another would be Snow Crash.
Something is just kinda cool about a hero names Hiro Protagonist, his sword, and being a pizza delivery guy for the Mob in a ceded Los Angeles. The metaverse (the next version of the internet) seems pretty cool too.
Bottom line: There is just sooooo much out there that has not been done, yet Hollywood rehashes the same junk.

Ready Player One.
Needs to be at least two movies to squeeze it all in.

Maybe this could be pulled off as an HBO or Netflix series, definitely not as movies.
And they would still have to shorten it a lot and leave out plenty.

Fear Nothing / Seize the Night. These were 2 novels Dean Koontz based in Moonlight Bay. Great characters that are put together in what would translate into a cool ensemble cast. sadly, yes, I have casted both in my head. Sadder I've done this if the books were done separately and if they were combined into 1 movie.

You know, now that I think about it, doing Ready Player One as a HBO series would probably be pretty awesome. Theres so much in the story that you don't want to leave out that would be tough to not have to gloss over in a 2 hour movie. Thats my biggest fear in the inevitable adaptation, missing the point ala Enders Game.

Conan was redone in 2011 starring the actor who plays khal drogo.
It was terrible.

Another Asimov story that I think would make a cool movie would be Nightfall. It's about a planet in a multi-star system that only experiences night time once every thousand years or 2 thousand years. I can't remember. When that happens society has falls apart from terror.
"If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore; and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God which had been shown!"
Asimov prefaces the story with this quote by Emerson.
Another cool one might be the Dosadi Experiment by Frank Herbert.

Earth Core and Infected by Scott Sigler. Both novels have room to develop characters and story as well as plenty of action sequences for the big screen.
