My LSU fandom began is the mid 70s...the Cholly Mac era and the peak of Bear Bryant's reign. We knew the Bama game was an automatic loss every season until Stovall broke trough in 1980.

It wasn't Cholly Mac's fault Bama was a dynasty just like it's not Les' fault they are again. Both coaches were / are powerless to do anything about it along with every other coach in the league. Right now, Bama and Saban are just too good at what they do. It's not a matter of accepting mediocrity or poor QB play. It's just reality. Dan Mullen has probably the best team in MSU History. A senior laden team with a Heisman candidate QB...and it didn't matter. And, regardless of what conspiracy theories you can come up with, 1/9/12 was a done deal when the Okie St kicker missed that FG against Iowa St.

Anyway, here's the secret to not being ruled by the hate: My late cousin & Godfather, one of the most knowledgeable and loyal LSU fans ever, said to me as we walked from the student union to Tiger Stadium one game day vs. Bama & Bear, "Roscoe, we all know who's going to win this game, but we're going in that stadium and pull for our Tigers!"...he knew the LSU game day experience, being an LSU fan, and living in south Louisiana was as good as it gets.

Bama is beatable by LSU. The games have been close and came down to losing it late. These past two years could have been won. Dynasty or not they have been beatable for LSU. Just lose it late.

In a way Les and Saban remind me of Barkley and Jordan. Barkley was great and probably should have had more titles, but unfortunately he played during the Jordan Era which probably won't ever be matched.

Saban is undoubtedly a better in-game coach, but Miles recruits like hell at a very high level with Saban, which is why we're in almost every game we play against Bama.

They have had better clutch QB play the last few meetings (minus 2012). What I saw this year was pretty reassuring if we can get can both throw and complete slant passes.

BS. If we had a halfway decent QB playing we'd have beat the snot out of bama the last 3 years. Instead we have a kid that could barely run a HS offense running a SEC power's offense. Miles has to be the one to pull the trigger and make the change, but he just will not do it for some unknown reason.

I think that people don't see or choose not to see that Les doesn't play the game. It's his job to put the team in position to win.

2012 LSU was in position to win at home.

2014 LSU was probably in a even better position to win. Les didn't kick the ball out of bounds on the kickoff.

the 1/9 stuff, well LSU had no shot to win that game. Sorry. Not excuses. Just wasn't going to happen after the GOC.

reality is sometimes you win. sometimes you don't. It's how you handle the don't(s) that really matter probably. I've seen LSU teams in my lifetime have a tough defeat and not recover. Generally this program under Les does.

Well we let em off the hook twice at home during this 4 game skid we're on. It's like we're not competing with them, just can't put them away when we have em on the ropes. It's not like they're fricking invincible. They're good for a loss every year.

And the Bama inferiority complex people have has seriously got to stop. I'd rather be a tiger, win or lose. frick the gumps. Stop comparing our program with theirs and let's focus on having a decent offense next year that won't put up zero points in a game. That's the true root of the miles hate. Getting shutout is embarrassing, but shite happens. Let's get better. Saw some new wrinkles in the A&M game that gave us some more options. Pumped for next season and this upcoming bowl game. I have faith in CLM over any new coach we could put in his spot next year.

i have not been bashing les miles much lately b/c we know who he is and what kind of team he wants on the field. life is life

but, to just accept defeat is a terrible mindset. if bama is doing things at a higher level than we are, then we need to figure out what they're doing or figure out a way to perform at an even higher level. just accepting our mediocrity is terrible

I wouldn't trade Miles for anyone.

Well, maybe Gruden.

No team has ever been unbeatable. Obviously many have gone unbeaten through a year. However, the OP's premise is correct regarding Miles. He has the best winning percentage for any Head Coach in his tenure at LSU for anybody that has coached for any significant time. He has done this while the SEC is stronger than it has ever been in history only rivaled by the the late 50's and early 60's from looking back at the records.

Yet many on here think he is the town idiot that coaches a football team in the fall.

Speaking of clm hate ...... I had a guy tell me yesterday that clm is not a good coach , so I asked what he didn't like about him ..... The only thing I could do is walk away after his reply .....

He looked me straight in my eyes and said ..... " he just can't get the talent , just look at the nfl , there are no stars from lsu playing in the nfl , at least none that miles recruited .....

Saban?

We can't even beat Bielema or Mullins right now.
Nor can we stop a 2 minute drill...

This, "we're only second to Saban in the country" mindset is laughable.

We're playing .500 ball in our conference and haven't even competed for the SEC Championship in 3 years. But we've got the highest paid staff ...err assistant coaches in the country.

We act like only Bama & Saban are holding us back from being National Champions every year when we struggle to beat a winless RKansas team and the next year suffer the ignominy of giving them their first conference win in years and get shut out by them in the process.

Oh yeah, but we're still on top cause we excel at placing Juniors in the NFL, I mean there's always that...

I don't know how much you follow recruiting but Bama has finished with the #1 ranked recruiting class for the last 7 straight years while LSU has had an average ranking over that same time period of 7.25. NOw Miles does do a good job of developing the talent he has as evidenced by how many players he puts in the pro's. As far as in game coaching, Miles has more come from behind victories than just about anyone.
