How does a movie with so much potential get a 48 on RT? Angelina should not have even touched this film. Could have been Oscar worthy

I could tell from the previews the casting is badly off for these characters.

Nothing against Jolie. She had her heart behind it I'm sure but just isn't a good director... and apparently a terror to work with.

She should have made a documentary, she opted to make Oscar bait - very average looking Oscar bait.

One of my favorite books and I've read a lot about the film

The story is unreal and could be told better In a BoB type miniseries

She crams all of it into 2 hours and I've heard you don't ever feel connected with him. Such a shame

The project was way too ambitious for Jolie's (or anyone's) directorial debut. This would've been a tough movie even for seasoned directors, simply because the story is so massive.

Jolie isn't a good director and shouldn't have touched this project.

Spielberg and Hanks should have brought it to HBO.

I thought the movie was fricking amazing. Everyone in the theatre was emotional.

I can only assume the negative posts came from people that haven't seen the movie. It's very moving.

The book is great. Beyond the shocking story of the guy, it teaches you and gives you a bit more insight into the war.

Does it paint Japanese as being POS thugs? That would be enough for critics to hate it.

I agree 100%

But I know sheep will sheep and flock to hate on movie they've never seen for one reason or another.

I was moved to tears more than once, especially at the end.

Yes, I read the book. No, the movie does not do the book or Zamperini justice, but no movie ever could.

Jolie tackled quite possibly the greatest story of the last three generations and no it was not perfect, but it was still damn good.

It doesn't really show any of the soft hearted compassionates in the book. It does focus a lot on The Bird, then later an emphasis on the Radio Tokyo group, but the movie was about Zemp. The fact that in mankind there stands him, then the rest of us.

The movie was good and I thought the characters were very good. That being said, this movie would have been better if someone else had made it IMO. No knock on her because I think she did a good job on a story that HAD to be told, but I think someone else may have done it better.
