What does flexibility and progressivism have to do with James Bond? It's obvious you are trying to political troll but this is such a stupid thing to make a political point on.

I doubt this would be a smart move financially, but any opposition will be portrayed as racist, and there will be opposition.

Which is why I am 98% sure it will not happen.

Bond has not done great numbers in the US in a while, i'd imagine the international numbers would plummet.

And if they were casting Will Smith, I'd agree. But they're choosing someone who's legitimately an amazing actor for a role he would crush.
Possibly, but the written character was white and he has been portrayed as white throughout all of the movies (except for when Sean Connery got Asian surgery) and I don't see a reason to deviate from that.

Maybe because they think Elba is the best choice from the pool to choose from.

but am I racist for wanting Batman, Superman, James Bond, etc. to be reflective of their source material or white?

Kinda yeah. You're valuing skin color over who the best actor available would be.

I disagree. For one, you are assuming that there are no other actors of equal skill to play the role, which I'm not sure is the case.

Would you support the same position if the most qualified actor to play Shaft was a white guy?

I already know the answer to the question.

No he's valuing the original concept created by the authors of the source material.

Um... I wasn't discussing "progressivism" anymore than I was discussing Progressive Insurance. Progressive has a couple of meanings.

You fricking idiot.

Ok

Nevermind that the "original concept" has been altered several times at this point. Its only when they talk about changing the actual skin color that it becomes a problem. But you're not racist

But what did he have to say about a black Annie? Why would Rush's comments about a character taken from novels with a British hero be more cause for concern than his comments about a character taken from a comic strip with an American heroine? If his comments reflect racist beliefs wouldn't he have made similar comments about Annie?

I'm ok with a black Bond as long as we can do a white Shaft.
