Fassbender's mother is irish and he was raised in Ireland since he was 2.

That makes him British enough for Bond.

I don't care if Bond is black, but I also don't think this statement is true at all.

They had a vote. They chose to remain part of the UK.

Based on what? Because it absolutely is true.

African Americans are the second most underrepresented ethnic group in American cinema, behind only Latinos.

Second, let's pretend for a second that black people aren't severely underrepresented in film and television.

How about let's pretend this statement has any true relevance or meaning. It's just one of those things thrown out that never gets challenged.

I see commercials and TV shows everywhere that have black actors. And my anecdotal evidence that TV show roles are more than 12.5% of the toatal is just as strong as your anecdotal evidence that blacks comprise less than 12.5% of the TV show and ad roles.

I read the link. 10.8% of speaking roles are black apparently. So I guess somehow you're right. At least for the movies I watch, they aren't underrepresented.

Hey guys, another black male here.

Just my .2 cents but I really don't give a shite about shaft for what it is worth.

Also don't care all that much about blade.

Just leave black panther alone and I'm good.

Now, I really don't want to get dragged into this but ill chime in on a few things. Forgive any grammar mistakes because I am rushing on my ipad.

1.) blacks and Latinos are under represented in Hollywood. This is because the majority of disposable income spent on entertainment is around 85% from middle class whites. It has been proven time and time again that people like watching movies that they can relate themselves too in some way. There has been research done (it goes both ways). Hollywood doesn't care about race but there audience does. So they play to their audience. Blacks are generally not a safe bet as leads or major characters in major Hollywood films. The international market alone dictates that. He'll just go look at the last transformer movie and see how they whored it up to the international market, same with the fast series.

Is this racist? No, it's business.

2.) I do think a lot of times a lot of the noise you hear is because of liberal whites leading the charge on "behalf" of blacks. I seriously doubt anyone under the age of 40 gives a real shite about Shaft.

3.) there are many people who just want to leave Bond white because they feel that is the essence of the true character. There are some people who really don't care either way (me). Then there are those who get real insecure for some strange reason, like the guy who wanted to know if NOLA was safe during MLK day, he was apparently afraid of angry black retribution. You guys know the type, if you don't then you might want to look in a mirror

4.) rush is a professional idiot and shite stirrer, and he is good at his job.

Just my thoughts.

I'm okay with this because Elba, despite being in some absolute garbage films like Prom Night and over the top circus crap like Pacific Rim, is a great actor and has proven his range.

If you want to see his actual start in film, order ULTRAVIOLET (not the recent movie) on Amazon. It is a 1998 mini-series on vampires -- taking place in the UK, of course. Elba is very sleek and very deceptive in that series...in a good way. Then, his ability to play Stringer Bell in the Wire has no words to do justice -- especially in the 2nd and 3rd seasons when we saw his character be more than just a hard arse as he was in season one. We saw his ability to stand with the best in American Gangster.

Yes, he's black, but it's not as if Don Cheadle or Terrence Howard would be Bond. He's an English actor and he's done enough work across the globe to warrant this decision. I'd even be willing to bet that this Bond film smashes the box office for weeks. I think it'd be interesting. I would take more offense to having to watch Timothy Dalton play Bond than Elba. Obviously, the dude has sex appeal with the ladies, too...all races.

I'm okay with this. Limbaugh gives conservatives an awful name anyway. How do you listen to advice and disapproval from a guy who was addicted to oxycontin anyway? He was interesting in 1992.

about a WWII English agent with Highlands ancestry. Of course I could argue that Sherlock Holmes having the Internet and an Iphone doesn't fit with the original authors intent as well. Over 98% of the public that will watch either movie/show will never have read an original work from the author.

There are a number of liberties taken with the original Hobbit and LotR books that I don't really care for but they still work. You're probably right about Rush baiting the same guppies, seems like about all he's good for these days.

Will Bond's son, James Suzuki Bond, now have to take on afro/asian characteristics as well? I don't believe Rush is anything more than someone who views the Bond character in a particular way, identifies with the character and wants it preserved. Nothing sinister associated with his comments.

Britain = England + Wales + Scotland + N Ireland.

No one is ethnically British (maybe arguable the Welsh). It's a purely national designation.

If painkillers had the effect that people in this thread think they had....they would be even more popular. But they dont so most people probably only have 1 or 2 family members hiding an addiction to pks.
