I can load for slightly less than factory steel cased ammo. Usually around $0.22-$0.23 per round if I remember correctly.

It depends on if you already have the reloading equipment or not. I don't know if I would spend the money on all the stuff needed to just reload 223. It would take many rounds to see any savings there once you figure in all the cost. This article is old, but still relevant.

Agreed Broke. Not worth it when Cabelas was shipping out brand name brass 223 and 556 for $0.28 to my door 2 weeks ago

If prices start rising again, it will certainly be worth it though. Prices are depressed though

What brand? That's a heck of a deal.

Depends on what you want to do, for just blasting paper it's not worth it. Just pick up your brass and give it to me.

I already had the equipment and my 75-77 gr loads are way more accurate than anything I've bought. Plus I can load the 64gr bonded bullets how I want them.

For blasting crap I'll just buy the cheapest steel cased ammo I can find.

Meh, not yet for me personally. I do load pistol and hunting calibers. Fortunately I am still sitting on tons of surplus 5.56 and 7.62x51, hell tons of South African battle packs. After years of shooting 5.56/308 I have many 5gal buckets full of brass, at least 10k in 556 brass. One day I will load it....one day.

PMC Bronze, PPU, AMerican Eagle and Remington in the 55gr...I think Federal as well

American Eagle 62gr green tip were $0.29/rd to the door

This. Shot my son's 223 Rem bolt action 2 days ago. 1/2" 3 shot group at 100 yards w/ Hornady 40 gr. Zombie Max bullets. Can't do that for $0.29/round.

Only issue I have with this is how it accelerates barrel wear due to the bi-metal jacket. But besides that, if only shooting a few hundred rounds, steel is very cheap and trouble free.

Mine actually cost more now, even though I'm using top of the line stuff,,,BUT, I bought my supplies when they were hard to come by. Was that smart, I dunno? But I had boolits if the zomby attacked.

Bimetal jacket on the bullet, nothing to do with steel casing. Don't shoot any m193 or ss109 as those are bimetal as well.

Do you have any links that prove accelerated wear? All I can find is a bunch of speculation, but I'm at work and filters suck.

It will wear but you will be upwards of 15-20k rounds to notice accuracy issues most likely. At that point, just spend $250 on a barrel and swap it.

That is why I said 2 weeks ago. You must have missed the promo code thread that was up on the front page of this board for 2-3 days

Wow, sounds like a deal.

If I could get 5.56 at that price consistently I wouldn't reload.

Component prices have not come down much, if at all, in the past year or two.

Maybe I'm spoiled. Just about all components today are about twice what they were 10 years ago. The only exception is brass, which is "only" about 1.5 times as much as 10 years ago.
