Try SGammo. Just bought 1k rounds in boxes of Wolf Gold for $299 delivered. This is brass case and pretty good stuff

Bimetal jacket on the bullet, nothing to do with steel casing.
I know this. Most steel-cased rounds use bi-metal jackets.

Do you have any links that prove accelerated wear? All I can find is a bunch of speculation, but I'm at work and filters suck.
Brass-vs-Steel Epic Test
EDIT: After 6000k rounds of steel-cased Brown Bear - keyholing:

Damn! After only 6K rounds?
Luckily I've never shot steel cased ammo in any of my guns.

I think it will take 15 years for me to shoot 6k rounds through one of my guns

Yeah, I'd imagine it would be tough when you are a ammo hoardingPOS

But if you look in that link, Federal brass 5.56 ammo was 100% reliable in 10k rounds and still had adequate accuracy afterwards. The ones shooting steel-cased, bi-metal jacket ammo were basically smoothbores.

I hand load for several reasons : precision accuracy and most of my custom rifles are chambered in wildcat cartridges that you can't buy in stores. I also don't shoot high volume, mainly paper, coyotes, crows, deer, etc...

If any of y'all that load for a 223 and live close to New Roads, I have a bunch of new unfired bass I can give away. I will check to see how much I have maybe later today.

If no one takes it off your hands in 2 weeks, I'd be interested. However, I won't be over that way for a couple weeks.
I'm slowly stacking up spent brass to eventually begin reloading a few years down the road.

What's your email? I'll take it off your hands. Or maybe I'll go halfsies with Tots

Do the math though. Even if you only save $0.10 per round, after 6000 rounds you have $600 in your pocket to buy a nice new barrel.

That's basically what the article explains. Monetarily, they are both similar methods.

Cool article, never saw that before.

Its not just steel cased ammo, lots of military copies use bimetal jacketed bullets. I bet you've shot it an never noticed

By the way, off topic but how's your health? I've been wondering that since I've seen your presence on the board more lately.

GB,
Tell me about your cartridge. The case looks to be very short. What kind of gun is that?

Hmmm reload for 223?
you guys are the ones I get all the free brass from
ever shoot armor piecing or tracers? ever tailor a round to fit your barrel diameter, twist and head space?
this is why you should reload for 223, if accuracy, bullet variety, and fps are important.

I grew up shooting benchrest and the most accurate cartridge (hands down) from 100-300 yds is the 6PPC. I mostly shoot 17 and 20 calibers at varmints, predators, and hogs. Therefore I necked down the PPC case to .17 and shortened it -.180" so I could shoot Vitavouhri powder and Berger 25 gr Match bullets. Prep work involved but the brass can be shot at 4000+ fps and reloaded 35-40 times.
Rifle is a Stolle Kodiak single shot action , right bolt, left port with an 8 ounce Jewell trigger. Kelbly varminter stock, and 22" Lilja light varmint contour . Rifle weighs 11 lbs with glass and doesn't move.
21.5 grs of N133 under a 25 gr Berger shoots around 4050 fps all day long into tiny holes.
L-R : 17 Fireball, 17 Little Nasty , 22PPC, 6PPC, 220 Russian
the 17 LN cartridge measures 1.25" from base to COAL
