Put a cone or trash can in the spot so no one parks there. Move the can when you back out.

Cone is a good idea. Really this hasn't ever happened before. I thought it was just common courtesy. Despite Dolla's insistence, this isn't a me issue. If you saw the street, you'd see why it wouldn't work. And backing in may be an option sometimes, but not when it's busy. I just didn't know if towing was an option in the future.

I am sure Riverside will be glad to tow it.

I think that's going to be my best option.

Oh and leaving your trash cans at the road is trashy, pardon the pun, per OT guidelines

Leaving them there all week is trashy. Not the night before the garbage man comes.

They come up to the house after the trash man comes and only go out the night before. I'm happy to know that in this one instance I'm not trashy.

If the street is wide enough to have cars travel down it, you should be able to back out of your spot. Also, it may be that the cars parked on your side of the road are too close to your driveway. I believe they are supposed to be 3 feet from your driveway.

ETA: I'm guessing you drive a big arse SUV, too.

Jeep. That's how I missed the ditch. The car behind me was not so much parked on the side of the road but more like he just stopped in his lane and got out.

It's funny how so many are dogging the OP, who sounds pretty reasonable, without seeing the spaces at issue. They would probably raise hell if someone parked behind their driveway, with other cars parked along the same side of the street as the driveway.

if they block your driveway..yes.
If they park behind it, I'm not sure.

IIRC, it is illegal to park directly opposite someone's driveway

Doesn't seem like too many people are "dogging" her too much, more than simply pointing out that if it's wide enough that people are still able to drive down it, then she should be able to get out of her driveway, especially without hitting a garbage can and almost going into the ditch.

Punkin, what city is this in? Might be able to google city ordinances and see exactly where they are allowed to park and whatnot.

Maybe you should take some lessons from the guy driving the gigantic garbage truck down your "narrow" road.

I lived a couple doors down from a popular restaurant where the only parking was street parking on a narrow street. You learn to deal with it and plan your parking better. In New Orleans, if they didn't allow parking across from driveways on narrow streets, then there'd be no street parking.

Get a good off-road bumper installed and leave them a thank you mark on their door or just push them out of the way. Problem solved.

Try again, I live in New Orleans and deal with this daily. I also drive a Jeep and have absolutely no issue getting out of my driveway. My neighbor drives a Ford F-150 and manages to navigate this same issue, without incident.
