It was a GREAT run, but, I believe that it is over.

Time for us to come out of the dream.

Nice run for several years - Saints were never going to be a dominating franchise long term.
Loomis just is not all that - decent bean counter but terrible talent evaluator. Not sure Sean Payton is all that any longer either.
Sad part is even above average is in high demand in all of sports. Excellence for just one year gets you lifetime retirement.

Front office was our biggest downfall. It's why teams like New England and Indy have been competitive for a decade now and will be for another 5 years at least. Our front office has done nothing to build on to what we've accomplished these past 8 years with Brees and Payton. We reached our peak in 2009 and had great success in 2011 and 2013 but now it's back to being mediocre. I have no faith in this front office to improve. They stupidly want super bowl every single year and only build for 3 year periods. Smart front offices realize when they need to revamp the coaches and the players and smart front offices can draft well so that we aren't hemorrhaging money to keep guys who will drop off after getting paid while we're stuck with ufa and 5th-7th rounders who shouldn't even have a roster spot. We'll never be super bowl contenders for over 5 years with this front office. We'll have a spark for a few years then suck for a decade or more. Rinse and repeat.

Saints won a Superbowl. If they never reach the playoffs again, in my lifetime, they've way over achieved in my book. They are a small potato market and shocked the NFL one season.

Well to be fair... IF the Saints beat the Bucs and the Panthers and Falcons somehow play to a tie.... The Saints win the division...........

Indeed - why expect more than we got already.
As the prior post suggested, our front office really sucks bad and killed us with poor decisions.
Did anybody actually think Loomis was capable of putting together a long term winner? The guy is a bean counter not a football guru.

In the end, it's amazing that we actually got a Super Bowl out of this ..

2011 was our peak. We should have won a Super Bowl without question. Letting that trash from San Francisco beat us was the beginning of the end. The NFL made sure to finish us off.

They got beat by the better team that day... When Thomas went out it was over.......

The discussion is not today's performance. Its about the end of an era. And it started when the NFL suspended our coaches and took away valuable picks.
