I caught a couple rainbow trout vacationing in that BREC cesspool by the skate park and am wondering what to do with these shiny little fellows. Anyone have recommendations for cooking cleaning? I normally filet and pan fry my fish but don't know if there's a special touch that should be used with the rainbow trout.

How long ago did they stock them? I read that it takes about 2 weeks after they are stocked for the trout to stop tasting like dog food

Awesome...I think they were put in there Thursday. I don't know if there will be any there in two weeks. You practically have to wait in line to get a spot at that pond.

Don't take that 100% as truth. It's just something I read online

What were people catching them on?

I caught 9 (can only keep 4) on a small rooster tail/inline spinner in yellow.

Filet the fish and pan fry with thyme, butter and a little lemon

Or smoke them whole and make a dip.trout, cream cheese, lemon and dill

The dog food comment isn't true.

Thanks! I was using super light tackle so it was fun. I also caught a good size brim that felt like I had hooked a tarpon in comparison.

The classsic way to cook them is called trout almandine...look it up.

Just so you know, they are fairly bony.and not really much good in comparison to the southern fish. When I catch them Jon Colorado, I usually release them and just get some catfish when I get home.

Hope to never eat another rainbow. I've tried them dang near every way imaginable. Just release them and pick up something decent on the way home.

They are always pretty good slapped with some butter and tonys in some foil then set in the camp fire to me. Rather some brookies though.

What flavor dog food? Beef or chicken would be OK but liver is a deal breaker.

Amen on the gaftops > rainbows. I had this dimwitted view that a rainbow trout, seeing how he makes a living in those beautifully clean, pristine streams that look they belong in a beer commercial, would actually taste worfa shite. They, son, are HORRIBLE.

I'd eat gar balls, gasper gou, big boned buffalo (hell, tiny boned buffalo fish for that matter), an 80# greasy butted catfish caught down river from the lower 9, or much else anything with gills over one of those cat food taste, beautiful for nothing things.

MAYBE, I'd pick him over Mudcat or choupique.

See, here's the thing. Yall have genetically retarded tastebuds up north. Over time, they start telling your brain that things like rainbow trout, bratwurst, and other yankeefied victuals are fit for human consumption. Throw salmon - nothing more than a bigger, redder meated rainbow in that same mix.

Ever hear of the rainbow trout population being decimated by a chef throwing him on a hot skillet, and blackening him? Didn't think so. Know way? He's not fit for an unretarded palet.
