In the market, looking for suggestions.

Not really in to base, really just looking for high quality sound.

TIA

preferrably over the ear

Ear buds or over the ear? I got some over-the-ear ones from Monoprice that are solid. Think I paid like $25 for them.

I have these.

If you're looking for audiophile level headphones, these aren't it. If you're just looking for a great deal on headphones, these are it. The sound is pretty good, especially for $25. They're hard to beat in their price range.

I just got a pair of the V-Moda Crossfade LP2's and they are great for movies, gaming, electronica, rap/hip hop, but bad for any sort of rock or indie music (I was able to use an equalizer to make it sound better for those genres though). The build quality of them is excellent.

Dang. That's what I like. It's hard to find them for rock with the tight bass and guitars

That's a great deal on the V-Modas.

But my answer to all OTE best performance for the money question is still the HD 598s

Sennheiser is the correct answer.

Go with one of the Sennheisers that people have recommended. I grabbed a pair of the On-ear Momentums and they sounded awesome. 100 times better than the V-modas for rock. I ended up returning them because they weren't very comfortable for me (due to the on-ear style).

My buddy at work has those. I borrowed them for the day a couple of weeks ago to test them out. They sounded really good. The only complaint that I had was that they use some sort of pleather material for the ear pads and it makes your ears start sweating after a bit because they don't breathe. They do sell replacement ear pads though that I think would solve that.
