The evolution of our friends

Naturally as progress through life, we're bound to have old friends fade away and new ones emerge.
What are y'all's experience with this? I am still in good contact with my close high school friends. Now (college) I've got a few circles of friends that I spend most of my time with. Some really surprise me as far as how we met, and how we connect, but I think I'm pretty happy where I'm at.
Whatcha say?

The only people I'm really close to are my college friends. I never had much in common with the people I grew up with, and the people I've met after college are acquaintances, not friends.

I've had friends that I have lost contact with after HS, college, jobs, etc
We were good friends, then moved on, and slowly lost contact, only to be replaced by new friends.
I still have my 2-3 best friends that I have had since I was a kid. We obviously don't see each other as much as we used to as we all live in different cities, but we still stay in regular contact. I imagine I'll keep in contact with them the rest of my life while the other friends will come and go.

You guys here are all the friends I need

Close with about 7 or 8 guys from grammar school era still and a couple from college. I consider myself pretty lucky. We all maintain contact on the reg and have taken opposite career paths. It's good to have a core group of bro's. ...To each his/her own I suppose.

I still like to call my closest friends the ones I played football with in high school. We don't talk or hangout like we use to obviously because the different paths we took in life but with Facebook and the like it's much easier to keep in contact. The love is still there.

Some of the guys in my group of friends from childhood are still close. I catch hell every time I run into one of them. I have to remind them that I have a great wife, kid, job, and new friends. All things they don't have.

This for me as well. I would add friends from jail in there as well.

Unfortunately, I haven't really made any close friends since college. Just acquaintances.

I had a friend once. But I forgot his name.

One childhood friend who I still stay in contact with. College had a good core group of friends who remained through my 20's. Still regularly talk to 3 of them. The rest I see once a year at fantasy football draft. Old now with a house and kids and have the same. About 3-4 core friends. One is a mess who drinks too damned much. He moved off a few miles but I make no effort to go see him as I feel guilty. If we hang out it is an excuse for him to double his alcohol intake.

I didn't want to put in the effort to making friends in college, so instead I joined a frat and just paid for them.

I have a group of friends who I have been close with since I was six or seven. A lot of newer friends, and then others who came and I lost contact with, but the people I see the most now were the people I played with in the neighborhood.

Friends with a couple of guys from HS, but I consider my college fiends my best ones, even though we live in different areas. I have some med school and residency friends still. Now that I'm back in NOLA after having moved all over the country, I honestly don't even feel like making new ones (I'm married with kids, though).

No offense, but I would think some real time will tell you more.
I still live within 5 miles of some high school friends, but only speak to them every few years. One, I interact with weekly. I'm talking 40+ years of friendship.

For married couples friends can be seasonal. During basketball season we did things with other parents whose kids played basketball. Likewise during softball season.
Work has an effect on this too.
