I quit

Not that I don't think Harbaugh would be a great coach, but what is all this talk about going away from "the michigan man" approach.

How does Les just leave, is he under contract for next year? He can just quit, there is a buy out option for the coach in any contract. He can refuse any trade that the 49ers offer as well.. then they have the option to keep him or fire him.

So either he will agree to a trade to another NFL team or he will become a FA to pursue any job he wants, NFL or CFB.
The 49ers have leverage here. Harbaugh will be pressured to accept a job that is mutually agreeable or the 49ers will just "keep him on the payroll" until the Michigan job is no longer available. The other option would be for Harbaugh to negotiate a buyout. He can't just quit. And, the 49ers will not just fire him without getting something for it.

It is going to be epic when Harbaugh makes Michigan wait until around January. And, he tells them no and goes on to coach at another NFL team.
And then Michigan ends up hiring some coach that is worse than Brady Hoke.

But between the 49ers and Harbaugh, I believe it's going to be a mutual split. There's a huge rift there, but I don't think anyone is going to hold anyone else hostage. Either Harbaugh agrees to a trade at a place he wants to coach or he'll get fired.

you know what else would be epic? if the 49ers just fired the General Manager and kept Harbaugh. That would definitely be a different spin.

Basically I interpret it as the fact that our "interim" AD and the search committee want to get away from the idea that our coach needs to be someone with previous ties to the program/to the midwest/ plays Michigan football. That sort of idea is exactly what led to Brady Hoke being hired, and this time around we need to get the most qualified/interested candidate regardless of previous ties.
It just so happens that by far and away the best candidate is someone with extremely strong ties to the program.

Jerry Rice said this morning on CBS radio that he believes Harbaugh is leaning towards UM.
Nice to hear, but he's pretty much the first one with any affiliation to the NFL to say this

but I don't see JH taking a step down to college ball.
Ok lets look at this....
Go to Michigan where there is ALOT less pressure than any pro gig and be treated like a king and paid VERY WELL...
Or Go to the Raiders garbage of a franchise and have to rebuild everything....
Sounds like an easy choice to me.

A lot less pressure at Michigan?

There is the kiss of death for Harbaugh to Michigan

quote:I don't think I would consider Harbaugh concerned about any type of pressure. If anything, it would be the opposite, he enjoys the pressure. He has a huge ego and has made 3 NFCCG's in 4 years (incl this year). I think he would love to prove the 49ers fools by going to the Raiders and winning them a Super Bowl.

Much less than coaching ANY NFL franchise.. A NFL coaching gig is a bitch I tell ya. Working 20 hrs a day with super pressure on ya and not near the control he would have in College man....
He will be given a bye the 1st two years anyway.. By then Michigan will be near the top of the BIG 10.

However long it takes I would love to see him go to Michigan. Have lot of respect for their program and it would strengthen college football overall (not sure if Urban could handle it though :))

Keep this rumor in mind when the 49ers lose to the Seahawks on Sunday:
Keep in mind that the most current relocation fee for one team was ~$250mm but with the new valuations for pro teams (after the Clippers sold for $2bb) the relocation for one team could be 2x that. The other owners would be getting either two relocation fees (Rams and Raiders/Chargers) or one relocation fee (Rams) and one sale fee (Raiders) to split amongst themselves

NFL brokers a trade between the 49ers and Raiders for Harbaugh
Raiders give Harbaugh roster control
NFL allows Raiders to move to LA
Value of Raiders goes through the roof
Davis family agrees to sell the Raiders
NFL brokers an ownership deal with high profile LA based owner
NFL is rid of the Davis family forever
Harbaugh becomes the centerpiece of the "new" LA Raiders
There are three teams that can readily leave their stadium deals: Raiders, Rams and Chargers
Raiders and Rams share the Colisseum until Kroenke builds his new stadium in Inglewood. New Raiders owner brokers deal to refurb LA Colisseum. NFL gets an NFC and an AFC team in the #2 media market

I could understand this, But the Raiders are in such a bad way I don't see him brinig a SB there... Lets remember that Stanford had a lot of good talent when he arrived as did the 49ers, they just needed better direction,,,, The Raiders are hopeless IMO...

This recruiting year is already awful so it's not going to get worse. As long as a decision is made before mid January there will be time to salvage something.
