Just a thought,"Broham," if you make a post like this and no one agrees with you, then you might want to reconsider. Maybe Nick Saban revived a program which wasn't doing too well. Maybe Les Miles built on that success. These kind of coaches don't grow on trees, and, no, recruiting plus half arse coaching does not translate into success anywhere.

To some degree LSU does make the coach but the coach has to have something to offer. We have had a few blunders in the last 25 years.

The OP is on to something.

Saban is a better recruiter than coach. he was smart enought to upgrade (as in, significantly) LSU's facilities which kept the in-state kids here.

saban and miles, when faced with parity of talent are decent coaches.

mullen has done much more with much less than either of these idiots.

Dude, you are so right!!! Why didn't I think of that?!?!
LSU made Mike Archer!
LSU made Curley Hallman!
LSU made Gerry Dinardo!

We will be fine! LSU can never be down.
Whew, glad you posted this
I was worried for a second if Miles left that we might actually take a step back.
But now I realize it's LSU and has nothing to do with the coach at all.
We have always been successful!!!

Les but he is NOT a top coach. He has good coordinators and can bring in talent.

There are two, maybe three, coaches in college football who have done that better than Miles.

The fact of the matter is that there are coaches who do better with less, but then those coaches go to a top program and fail. Rich Rod is a prime example. Rich Rod did more with less at Arizona and WV than he could at Michigan. Michigan wasn't a good fit. If we hired one of these coaches, it may or may not be a good fit. Miles may not be the best X's and O's guy, but he was a good fit for this program. You have no idea if the next guy will be. And no one we hire will have a better resume than miles.

He had a 9 win and 10 win season at LSU before he hired Lou Tepper.

Then you should have kept him, since LSU makes the coach. The OP makes it sound that anyone who can recruit can do exactly what Saban did and what Miles has done and is doing, which is patently absurd.

Agreed, just as is the pumper belief that only Miles could have the kind of success he has had.

If LSU is such a factory who can make any coach amazing, why no championships between 1958 and 2003?
