I know Wilco's guitarist (Nels Cline?) is respected. Can somebody give some good recs?

I never really enjoyed Wilco much until they got Cline. He gives the music some serious edginess that is needed imo.

crud.. does this mean he's not coming to BR in 2015 either?

don't think the fest will allow it in the contract ... maybe in the fall from my source who really wants to get him to BR.

Heard this story before; not getting my hopes up; and I'm not paying $75 to see him and deal with the crowds

His work outside of wilso is cool and experimental.
Within the last year he put out an album with mmw and they toured for a little bit, etree has some shows. The album is called the woodstock sessions vol 2.
I enjoy the nels cline singers album macroscope.
He just put out another album with julian lage called room. I havent fully listened to it yet, but its basically two guitartists going back and forth.
He also just played a show with phil a few months ago, but there were like 4 guitartists on stage and its tough to pick him out except when he solos.
I enjoy listening to him wail.
Hope this helps.

LINK Nels goes off on this one and it's from the 2011 jazzfest set.
Wilco is an acquired taste. It took me 2 years to really dig their music, but to this day they are easily top 5 for me.
Their 20 year anniversary greatest hits just came out LINK
Also, Kicking Television: Live in Chicago or Yankee Hotel Foxtrot would be a good starting point

just letting you know what i know. That a prominent talent buyer in BR is trying hard to get him in town and keeps running into radius clauses (Voodoo and now JF) ...

Cline is a badass and was needed in Wilco to evolve their sound from the straight forward Americana leanings that you had with Jay Bennett (as was the new drummer Kotchke)... He has definitely added an edge and dynamic to their live show...
He just played at an old church in the bywater a few weeks ago with Rob Cambre

JRAD has got to come. They have released a ton of dates for next year. Marco always plays like 10 gigs down here for JF, and Metzger will be at Anders shows.
