Even D12 doesn't think he's better than AD, but I'm thrilled to see the resident troll talking smack.

Solo offense is 1/2 the game defense is half the game. Howard has the advantage on D. Davis on O. Davis has the edge in metrics. Howard has the edge with leadership and team success.

But lets also understand that comes out to less than 2 points per game if Davis brought his numbers down to Howard's.

That is a big deal to have those points every game, but lets be honest, stars like Howard and Davis, those couple of points(probably a bit of a multiplier effect for deterrence) of rim protection could be made up by other parts of the game. For example, Dwight leaving points on the FT line that AD doesn't.

Not correct. Howard stops 2 extra points per game as a Center over a Power Forward who plays next to a guy who fills the role just as well as Howard.

Davis is a better overall defender. More steals and more blocks. Also much longer and rarer. Plenty of good rim protectors that you can pick up(Asik) so Dwight's role is more replaceable. 0 Big men in the NBA who will give you over 2 steals per game.

Davis has the edge in something quantifiable. Howard has the edge in something completely and utterly opinion.

Makes sense.

Howard presence on D leads to league leading D. Davis leads to below league average D. Not really debatable. Also Howard is superior at defensive rebounding.

Yeh, Im sure Trevor Ariza vs whatever undersized trash we put out to guard the 3 has nothing to do with that.

If you're a GM and you have the choice of taking prime Dwight and current AD, who do you take?

For the record I think Howard is definitely a better defender than AD was last year and its too early to tell this year how legit AD's improvement is. If I had to pick based solely on defense, I take Howard for most teams. Obviously since we have Asik, I'll take Davis.

But acting like its a binary thing where Davis is 1 unit better on offense and Howard is 1 unit better on defense is ridiculous.

Well we've seen prime Dwight beat a Lebron lead cavs team and take his team to the finals. We've seen Davis show that he can lead a team to a .500 record. I'm not gonna answer this one what do you think you'd like on your team? The guy who's proven he can do it. Or the one who hasn't shown that he can even make the playoffs much less win 3 playoff series in a year including one over the leagues beat player in Lebron.

This is just BS. They aren't unprecedented. Have you ever seen Olajuwon's career? Check out the 89-90 season. How about this stat line (LINK )..

24 ppg, 14rpg, 4.6bpg, 2.9apg, 2.1spg

He did that almost every season and only won the MVP once (94). It's like that for a bunch of the great Centers. I could cherry pick numbers all day. But nothing is going to convince you..

We've been over this: Dwight did all of this well after he was in his third year. So you're penalizing AD for assumptions you're making.

And why won't you answer who is the better overall player? Kind of a bitch move for someone so opinionated.

Well the question was prime Dwight vs AD now so the third yr stuff doesn't hold water.

AD is already a better player than Dwight ever was. Dwight leadership is hilarious, "soft" comes to mind. Btw AD's 3rd year so far blows the Dreams out of the water.

Yes it does. You're penalyzing AD for being in his third year. We don't know if AD will match, fall short of, or improve upon Dwight's first five years in terms of playoff success.

Stat wise yes. Being the best player on a championship contending team? NO.

stats are great but don't tell the whole sorry. Something to be said for leading a team to the nba finals that isn't reflected in the box score.
