I am heading up the 190 today and usually stop in at Billy's and grab a box of boudin for family events (i.e., Thanksgiving week) However, the last few times we stopped, the place and people seem to get filthier and filthier to the point where I am not sure I want to get anything from there anymore. Are there any other options along the 190? Thanks

Kartchner's Grocery and Specialty Meats in Krotz Springs. At the foot of the bridge on the south side of 190.

Good boudin, sausage and other meat products. Their frozen duck and andouille gumbo is darned good too.

Agree with Kartchner's.

Also, I've been hitting Bourque's Supermarket in Port Barre. Great stuff.

It seems to take forever to get to Bourques from 190 because the damned speed limit was about 10 the last time I went. It is a neat store, but I was not crazy about their boudin. The jalapeno-cheese bread, however, was killer.

Kartchner's. Other side (southbound) of 190 from Billy's. Clean, great people, good Boudin. Maybe not quite to Billy's Teet's or TBoy's but better than anything around these parts. (And better than Bourque's)

Will give Kartchner's a try this go around, I keep seeing it but was not sure how good the boudin was. Thanks for the recommendations gentlemen!

not that far off of 190, but the original rays grocery plus on hwy 182 in opelousas is really good. Its by far my favorite boudin and they started making the boudin balls with cheese and they are very good also.

Sausage they just started making is good also.

Stopped by Kartchner's on way back to Baton Rouge. It was way bigger than I thought and had a variety of fresh, frozen and stuffed meats. It was very clean and had a large crowd buying groceries and homemade items. The girl at the checkout was very friendly when I asked if I bought the best stuff. She suggested the smoked boudin as her favorite and said it was a bit darker and had a bit more spice. I will try that next time. I picked up a package of their regular boudin and some smoked sausage. Had the smoked sausage last night and it was fantastic! I like Cutrer's in the farmer's mkt and liked this just as much - good smoke and nice kick! This morning I made yellow grits and the boudin for breakfast - it was very good! Not as much spice as Billy's, but enough to make it really good.

Thanks for the recommendations, I will be visiting Kartchner's again just before Thanksgiving!
