I haven't had every version of bbq shrimp in Nola, but the best I've had is the Mr B's version.
The worst was Pascal's Manale. They were beautiful shrimp beautifully cooked in a bowl of oil with very little seasoning at all. I ate two and that was all I could take. Awful. They were good years ago, but no more in my experience.
Haven't ordered them many places in BR. The Ruth's Chris version is very tasty, but they're served over mashed potatoes which is not my kind of dish. It's an app, but a very generous one. If you order them, get the potatoes on the side if you want them at all. I'd prefer to have the shrimp and bread.

This was my one and only experience with Manale's the one time I ate there about 5 years ago.

When was it?
I really wish I'd have taken a pic of them. You could tell by looking at the bowl that there was nothing but oil and there were a few pepper flakes here and there. I was so disappointed them because I'd remembered them as being so delicious.

I don't order BBQ shrimp when I dine out. Good BBQ shrimp are too messy.

Manale's = Nasty bland oil covered crap
Mr. B's = Very good
Emeril's = good but not traditional
Mr. John's = good but not traditional
Deanie's = Good if they don't overcook them
