Is supposed to happen soon. What kind of numbers would you expect and would you be interested?

Grand Cherokee has the diesel option. Hasn't been offered for the wranglers yet. They do offer a hemi upgrade though.

I though they were doing some swaps a few years ago before they officially came out with the Eco diesel. Kind of like that hemi upgrade. Even with the old body style GC not just the new one.

They're getting close, the fact that it was offered last year in the Cherokee, this year in the ram. So maybe either 2016 or if they do the 2017 update, 2017.
I'd buy the 2018 once all the problems are ironed out lol

I got a four wheel drive type magazine in the mail yesterday and it confirmed the 2016 wrangler will have a diesel. They didn't know if it would be the 4 cylinder offered in other countries but were thinking it would be the 6 in the Grand Cherokee.

Why would anyone want that?

A ton of people want that. Better torque, better fuel economy. Many Jeep purists are frustrated at a Minivan engine in a Wrangler. I know the PentaStar is a little better than the previous V6 but the old 4.0L inline six was bulletproof.

Because it's cool to have a diesel.

Yeah this and a 10" exhaust tip, hitch nuts, and a salt life sticker. Then you're like every other douche with a diesel.

Ok, but they also want diesel? I can't believe diesel engines are still made.

I was kind of thinking the same. You get better tq, but you can overcome that (to an extent) with a good transmission and gear ratios. The added weight, complexity, and maintenance of a diesel seems like it would be a turn-off to Jeep purists. The Ecodiesel weighs around 500 lbs, not sure of the Pentastar weight, but Im sure it's not 500 lbs.

On second thought, I'm not an off-roader...so I likely don't know what I'm talking about

Meh on a 4 banger but if they went with a 6 cylinder diesel, I'd trade mine in tomorrow. I'd definitely buy if they released the gladiator concept with a 6 cylinder diesel. Load up the kayak, rods and guns, hook on to the popup and Me and my son might never be seen again....
