In retrospect...I think Dell did it mostly right.

If Davis keeps up his pace this year, the Pels make the playoffs, and Davis improves again next year...the summer of 2016 could be pretty interesting.
I agree. Like everyone else has said, the Gordon contract HURTS but I think we're in a good spot going forward. I also like what he's done because I think its important for Davis actually be playing competitive games.

I also don't think Dell gets nearly enough credit for the Ryan Anderson deal, outside of Pelicans fans. NBA media, and now the league itself has become OBSESSED with the three point shot, ESPECIALLY stretch 4s and Dell absolutely stole arguably the best one in the league, for peanuts.

Where were all these "genius" gms that preach shooting 3s at all costs at when Anderson was on the market a few years ago. Maybe Dell was ahead of the curve. Imagine if Anderson was on the market this summer. He'd be able to pick his team

I think people are underestimatin the talent on the Pelicans.

The lineup of Davis, Anderson, Evans, Holiday, and Gordon has looked damn good since The shooting has improved a bit.

Also don't forget how well the team has been taking care of the ball.

We contended with two of the top west teams on a back to back without our starting center.

We could have walked away 2-0 as well, but split 1-1.

If we miss the playoffs and they're all healthy, we got issues.

Mason at BSS put together an article comparing Davis' statistical impact to other players.

quote:

7) Putting it All Together

Query: Players in NBA history over 21 points, 11 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and under 2.75 turnovers per 36 minutes

Qualifying Players: Anthony Davis, Shaquille O’Neal (x3), David Robinson (x2), Tim Duncan (x3)

Notes: This final list combines what are arguably Davis’ most attractive skills and compares them to the NBA players with the most similar skill sets throughout league history. It is difficult to decide what is more impressive – the efficiency with which AD is churning out these numbers, or the incredibly young age at which he has already shown the ability to perform at this level. Regardless, his all-around impact on every game he has played thus far is inescapably clear.

Anderson is going to cost a pretty penny to extend, I would imagine half of EGKnee's salary will be going to Ryan.

Noel is averaging 5.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 1.0 blocks, but shooting 32% from the floor, 33% from the line, with three turnovers per game

argh, he could have helped so much more than Holiday!

Dell is dumb!

#1 in offensive win shares, #3 in defensive win shares. Marcus Camby being his floor seemed like a compliment at the time but is downright insulting in hindsight.

and the thing is, he is still raw. He is still learning, and has miles and miles of room for growth.

Pels stacked, league fricked...

what happened to players on bad teams having inflated stats? If people believe in that theory then Noel and Payton should be doing a little better with numbers.

I looked at Pg's in the league now that got drafted into not great teams and put the stats of their rookie years together, I know a lot of these guys are elite but some people say elfrid could be this level eventually.

Also I know that it's only a few games in and I'm not saying that these will be anywhere close to his averages for the season, I'm just putting stuff to measure him by.

Name Points Assist reb Ft 3p
Elfrid 5.5 5.5 3.5 60 33
MCW 16.7 6.3 6.2 70 26
Jrue 8 2.6 3.8 75 39!
CP3 16.1 7.8 5.1 84 28
DRose 16.8 6.3 3.9 78 22
Kemba 12.1 4.4 3.5 78 30

Elfrid and jrue only average 24 mpg rookie year as well

Sorry for the format, using my phone at work haha

Leads the league in Offensive Win Shares: 1.8
#2 is Lillard @ 1.5
5th in the league in Defensive Win Shares: 0.8
#1 is Harden @ 1.0

#2 in Box Plus/Minus: +9.9
#1 is Curry @ +10.2

I need to get more up to speed on the modern stats, but the cool thing about AD is that they all tell the same story: we have an unreal talent on our hands. I can't wait to get to another game.

A couple of random observations:

1. AD is finishing stronger and higher on contested looks at the basket this season. At times previously, he would "make himself small" near the bucket resulting in misses. This season he seems to be going stronger - often for rim-rattling throwdowns - and over defenders.

2. Related to #1: Some of the feed-drives he has converted are so crazy difficult for a man his size. He is catching the ball while moving very quickly and converting over or around the other team's bigs. And he makes it look so easy. I wish the announcers would emphasize a bit more how hard some of those finishes are. Many bigs would fumble the pass!

3. You almost need stats to really appreciate how well AD is playing. You can just see it, of course, but so much of what he does is in the flow of the game that you need the stats to see how efficient he is. The guy does NOT get crazy touches yet he fills up the scorer's sheet like a beast.

that +/- is pretty insane when you consider we are only 2 games over .500. Of course, he was probably +40 against the Wolves.

1. Orlando: +19
2. Dallas: +3
3. Memphis: -8
4. Charlotte: +18
5. San Antonio: +1
6. Cleveland: -6
7. LA Lakers: +15
8. Minnesota: +34 (Jrue was +40 lol!)
9. Portland: +3 (...I hate this game)
10. Sacramento: +4

In 10 games, he's only had 2 "-" games. That is efficient.

+30
+12
+21
+13
-6
-18
+6
+23
+27

which is 12.8 by my maths and absolutely ridiculous might I add.

+57 in 2 games vs the Lakers

Yarp. Right now they all really need to just need to develop chemistry together. Next season, we can add the capable MLE D+3 SF to play ~25 minutes per game. That will be huge since we could bring either EG or Reke off the bench (he and EG can still finish if that's best for us).

And I don't want to jinx it, but if a certain someone keeps playing like he has been over the past 3 games, there's a good chance that, in the offseason, he does that thing that people think that he won't do, which changes everything for the better. Let's not go into detail about that, though, as it will almost definitely lead to that certain someone tearing a certain acronymed bodypart.
