Make sure you check the display number the first few tanks. They tend to be 3-5% generous in my experience.

That's good numbers though. It should get a little better as it breaks in up to about 20k miles.

This is the first modern diesel 1/2-ton in the U.S., so there is no basis for comparison. In the past, 3/4 diesels were compared with less than stellar gas "equivalents". So, of course the diesel is going to tow better.

stop riding the dodge bandwagon. I personally owned a 95 GMC 1/2 ton with the crappy 6.5 diesel. The 6.5 was a turd, but it still was a diesel. They did not produce many, but if you don't believe me, look it up.

Did you know that 1995 was 20 years ago?

I think it was available until 98ish. The half ton diesels went away when Duramax came into the picture.

It's a little different. The 6.5 was an HD engine in an LD truck, where this is an LD engine in an LD truck.

Wasn't the 6.5 also designed as a gas burner?

No. It is the same Detroit Diesel engine used in the HMMWV's too. They weren't fancy but they are durable and a whole lot easier to work on than current diesels.

No bandwagon here. Dodge was my preference for my last couple trucks and Ive been satisfied. I get what I like and dont worry about the fanboys pissing matches. When you grow a set of tits, sprout a vagina, and start giving me blowjobs you can have some input into what I buy.

The 6.5 was/is a dog but it's a pretty good old style motor.

It's a completely different philosophy from the new diesels. The new electronic ones are hot rod engines compared to the old ones.

Putting HD diesels in LD trucks was a pretty cool idea.

I don't think they were dogs, 400+ lb-ft and they got pretty good mileage even by today's standards. Brother had a 4x4 Tahoe with a 6.5L TD in it and once I took a sawzall to the exhaust, gave it a better air filter, and moved the PMD it was a pretty decent overall. 3/4-ton suspension, transmission, and axles and still got 20+ on the highway. Great candidates for DIY biodiesel/WFO conversion.

You may thinking of the old GM 5.7 conversion that was available in 79-81.

Biggest POS ever.

"Hey, let's take a 350 and run diesel through it"

Owned one.

In 80, they got better b/c they used the Oldsmobile block. Poor filtration killed them.

1st tank of fuel ended up at 23.2 mpg average. That's with sitting in I12 traffic both ways this week. So far I'm pretty satisfied and I'm told it will get better as I approach 20k miles.
I will keep posting for the board.
