I have personally known people who for several years talked about sightings of mountain lions. I think the Game & Fish commission finally admitted within the past few years that there is a breeding population in the mountainous areas of the state. Now a hunter has killed one for the first time in nearly 40 years.

ETA: The guy who shot it is from Bastrop, LA.

Was camping in the Ouachita NF with the family and a buddy and his family probably ten years ago between Albert Pike and Bard Springs in this camp site between the mountains that kind of acted like a funnel along the road/creek. We were riding four wheelers and saw one cross the road in front of us in daylight.

Later that night, we were sitting around the campfire doing the camping thing with the kids who were all little and our wiener dog when that thing came right up to the camp without anyone knowing it and let out a scream that was the most blood curdling every hair on your body rising terrifying thing I have ever heard other than a tornado running over me. It was apparently passing through and had to come close to the camp to do it. Either that or it had intentionally come up to our camp and was pissed it couldn't get a kid or a dog. Needless the say the rest of the night was spent with guns in our hands.

The scream came from between the camp and the creek which means that thing was within twenty yards of us and we never saw a thing and the dog never smelled it.

He used the "It's coming right at me!" defense.

According to state regulations, “non-game wildlife (except migratory birds and endangered species) that present a reasonable threat to people or property may be shot during daylight hours or trapped without a depredation permit.”

Why do you say that? Old man said he felt threatened.

The ability to read the mind of a Puma concolor is a rare talent.

I live in Southern Arkansas, and I've had all kinds of Lion sightings in my neighborhood. We kill a lot of deer, and discard their carcasses, and that's when the sightings take off...But, I've never seen one, and I'm always out hunting, and have lots of game cameras out. I need to do a carcass camera set, but just think people are just seeing things....

I've never seen one either and I have deer and elk in my "backyard". Others I know have seen the neighborhood cat. Still not sure I want to
