Coming down from Liberty, MS on La. 67, and the limit drops from 55 to 40 mph in the blink of an eye (frankly, I didn't see one of those reduced speed ahead signs... is there one there?) and a traffic cop is parked right there at the 40 mph sign.

Screw that place. Only went through there because I saw it in "The Long Hot Summer".

I make that trip frequently. The speed limit is curiously low but I've never had a problem in Clinton.

it use to be 40mph way before the school on the right going into town, they finally changed it over a year ago to 40mph right at the church on the left were all the cops sit, and there is a 40mph warning sign, but somehow I still forget to slow down

And this is why I was cheering for the state legislator that tried to make all of these towns put up SPEED TRAP AHEAD signs last year by statute. Of course, he got beat down by the other legislators and nothing happened.

If you don't recall, the statute and required signage only went into effect when a majority of their funding came from tickets issued to people who didn't live there. Probably one of the wisest and best considered pieces of legislation I have ever seen written.

They should be at least required to put up a REDUCED SPEED AHEAD sign. I didn't see one. Could be there, I dunno.

Pretty much.

If you aren't local, you are just their type.

I got pulled over for speeding in Clinton once. I challenged the officer to a spelling duel. If he could spell "Louisiana Revised Statute 32:63a," I wouldn't contest the ticket. I won.

There is no revised statue in Louisiana named 32:63a.

Yes, the whole goddamn town. If you travel through it regularly you need to get check for radiation sickness. I've been hit by five different radars before in one trip through town.

And if you think southbound on 67 is bad, you should try going east/westbound on HWY 10 east of town. All us locals have the speed zones hardwired so it's just automatic to hit our brakes in time, but a constant stream of out of towners is always getting driving awards here.

Golden meadow, Krotz springs and welsh are the biggest offenders for speed traps.

There are way too many towns in this state that are way too small to have a dept and should leave policing up to the Sheriff's Office and State Troopers assigned to the parish.

It is about stealing money from strangers, because that's what small towns have decided they want to do instead of paying for the police department they can't afford to honestly maintain. It's despicable fiscal nonsense from a state that's supposed to be filled with fiscal conservatives.

Either you can afford a PD or you can't and have to let the Sheriff's Office and State Police Troopers handle things.
