Happened to discover this place while cruising around this weekend. It's an old grocery and cafe. The owner was there at the counter and waited on us. Incredibly nice lady. Told us all about the history of the place and when Katrina and Rita came through. They were the only place in the area that was able to feed people. They were open 24/7 with her crew sleeping on site to help.
Anyway they had so many tempting items to choose from so I asked her to just surprise me.
She prepared turtle sauce piquant, shrimp stew, fried catfish, incredible cornbread. My wife got the spaghetti and meatballs. Everything was top notch home cooking. We got all of that food for 20 bucks and had enough left over for two meals.
Highly recommend and to support someone with such heart and passion for what she does and for the community. It you happen by check it out. You won't be disappointed.

off topic, but map related... Best Burger in Livonia has been lights out for some time now. Direct all hunger pains due west to Billy's.

Hwy 35 about 4 miles south of Kaplan. I grew up 6 miles South of Suires in Forked Island. Great down home southern cooking. Turtle sauce picante, crawfish pistolettes and don't miss the pecan pie. I pack an Ice chest from there every time I go home.

I've spent a little time at Ray and Sis's camp once, but that's about all that needs to be said here.

This is the part I don't believe
I've enjoyed everything I've ever had there but none of it was particularly cheap

Suires is awesome. Do they still have the pics up of the Blackhawk helicopter that landed there to get some burgers?

I guess I should have clarified. She gave me a good sampling of the entrees mentioned. Still way more than I could eat. As said in previous post the pecan pie is very good. Bought a whole one to go. It was delish

They catered my buddy's wedding. Quite good.

They also have most their entrees frozen in coolers for take out. Next time I go I'll be prepared to get some to load my freezer. I love these off the beaten path places. The food is always good and seems like your stepping back in time. There seems to always be a good story about the places as well. Nice break from franchise bs places
