I don't believe her intent was never to go through with it. I think she realized how terrified and not ready to die she was, and decided to continue her life a little longer. She saw the honor of dying on her own terms before she saw the real impact. Maybe the announcement was premature, but I doubt you could find someone who donated to her that feels defrauded.

This blood lust from some of you is a little disturbing.

People are saying she should have never made this public and tugged at the publics heart strings...if she donated all monies collected to her cause or another charity it would be ok. If she used it she is a fraud.

No, she shouldn't do it to appease a bunch of strangers... she shouldn't really give a frick what a bunch of strangers think. She should do it (when the time is right, setting a date was dumb) because that's what she believes in and that's the cause that she has championed.

If she somehow gets better, then of course not, but by the sound of the article she is getting progressively worse.

That would be ironic.

Nothing about any of this qualifies as heroic... at least not to me.

Nobody should criticize her for this and if you do, you're a dick. This isn't something that you can just decide on a whim. Ending your life takes a lot of very intense second guessing. She's still going to die soon but she still wants to live and engage in life's simple pleasures. More power to her and the best of luck.

I'm not surprised she changed her mind. If you're healthy enough to go to the Grand Canyon then you are healthy enough to enjoy life.

Please explain to me why this particular woman is beyond reproach?

Because she's sick or because she said she was going to kill herself?

Which one of those qualities qualifies her for sainthood?

All of the people bitching: you KNOW she is still going to die, right? I mean, she didn't lie about the brain tumor. She won't see this same time next year.

Until I see her blood work or cat scans I can only go off she and I's personal history.

I know she has lied on "big deal" kind of things so far.

Nobody is criticizing her for wanting to do or not doing it. We're criticizing her because she drew attention to herself so she could get money out of people. I support her decision to do whatever she chooses, but she, nor anyone like her, will ever see a dime of my money. She's an a-hole. Just because she has cancer doesn't change that fact.

Very well put.

Others, will undoubtedly, cherry pick something out of your statement that works to their agenda out of context, though

what exactly is she risking every day, every day that she wakes up?
she takes a risk everyday by not taking the medicine that will kill her, that she may die on that day?
that makes absolutely no sense, and it doesnt matter what stance you take on this

This is the key assumption that separates the opinions here. I'm not ready to state with certainty that her objective was to get money.

Thats a pretty flawed standard for reaching that conclusion. Accepting a gift doesn't always say that the gift was your goal from the start.

It may not have been her goal, but it is her result.

And for that, she should return and /or donate the money

and then live however much longer she so desires.

It would be a notable act to donate it, but I wouldn't hold it against her if she used it for its intended purpose. I doubt most people who donated would accept a return of their money.
