Is there a monthly fee for this stick to use it, or just $19.99 and thats it?

The only fees you pay are for the content subscriptions from the content providers like NetFlix. If you don't currently have AmazonPrime for the shipping, check the details, 1 month of AmazonPrime, which includes video similar to NetFlix, comes free, and I'd imagine it's the "cancel or it autorenews" set up.

Already paying for Netflix and Prime so this seems like a sweet deal. Thanks!

I was trying to figure out what to order for my second TV. I didn't like the idea of chromecast and having to stream it from a device. I thought about the Roku stick, or another Roku, but I was still out $50 at minimum. Dad has a Fire TV and is pleased with it, and if his technologically challenged self can run it, then I know it must be easy and good. At $19 I ordered one just now. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for posting this deal. I just ordered one.

Slightly off topic, this seems like a great deal. Is this a possible sign of corporate desperation? Amazon just turned in a shitey 2nd quarter earnings report.

They've never focused on earnings or returning a profit. Do a little research on them. It is quite interesting. Or extremely boring, but either way it is a different way of thinking.

This fits with Amazon's plan. They are focused on the long term and getting you to buy everything through them. The voice search function on the Fire TV "Find Gary Busey" only brings back content from Amazon, including video you can buy, it's not like it searches NetFlix for you. I also would assume the user interface is similar to the AmazonPrime App on my PS3 where your home screen is full of suggestions of content you might be interested in buying from Amazon.

Awesome, thanks! Just ordered two, one for my kid and another for travel. I was gonna get my kid a roku for Christmas so he would stop occupying my roku with his power rangers addiction. This saves me a lot of $.

I have followed them for a while, and love the company as a consumer.

I'm concerned they may be feeling some pressure with all the success Alibaba is having.

Note that for the voice functionality of the fire tv it's a $30 upgrade. If you don't care about that then just the $20 for prime members for 2 days. Getting on myself even though I already have a Chromecast. Very good for a second TV

Is the $30 for the voice capable remote? They mention being able to voice search through your phone app, that should be free I would think.

But also of note, NO HBOGO. At least right now, they do have a content deal with HBO and one is expected "by year's end" LINK /

They always announce something new shortly after earnings to distract Wall Street from their losses and whip them up into a frenzy for next time. The real difference this time was the subpar guidance they gave for the holiday quarter, predicting something like 14% revenue growth at the high end IIRC instead of the 20% that has been typical. This sort of drop-off is pretty bad considering Amazon is still operating as a money-losing operation and relies on revenue growth to instill hope.

just saw this on Amazon's homepage
Amazon's chromecast competitor. $39 but $19 for Prime members, releases November 19th
LINK

I preordered one but don't need it. It'll make a nice Christmas gift for somebody I suppose.

Just noticed in the email confirming my order that the expected delivery date is Dec 4th. Any reason why with the 2 day shipping it isn't being delivered around Nov 25th?

maybe it's been so popular it's already back ordered? "We can ship 10,000 per day, we're up to 60,000 orders and Thanksgiving is blowing a hole in the launch window."

Yes, that adds voice functionality to the remote. If you look at the remote in the image for it, there is no voice button. On the side of the page there is a check box for adding the voice functionality to the remote. Correct, the app will have the voice functionality though

They get you hooked on their product after the 30 day trial...Then you pay 70$ a year, and they profit
