That is correct. This is a wifi-enabled, app-driven device that plugs into your TV and offers more than the vast majority of smart tvs in terms of quality and diversity of apps as well as interface fluidity/ease of use. Maybe the bleeding edge TVs are different, but in general, smart tv offerings are usually not very good in terms of interface, and if a specific app isn't supported at time of purchase, it likely never will be. These devices typically receive updates for several years which include new channels/apps and a more refined interface.

This is a fake post with content that I am pretending is interesting to shy away from the fact that I somehow just double posted.

Its not just smart TVs. The blue ray player I have sometimes loses sound to Netflix and such. I just would prefer another device dedicated to the job.

Check your delivery dates. I was originally in the 1/5 group but received an update that my order should be at my doorstep on 12/24.

I mentioned this in another thread. Mine was originally 12/4, then I actually got an email saying 12/1. Then another saying it has shipped and will be here on Friday. About a week earlier than expected. I'll be trying it out this weekend with the early CFB games before streaming the Iron Bowl.

So has anyone had any issues with streaming live sports? I have a Roku 1 and have never had issues with WatchESPN on there. I got my Fire TV stick on Friday. Set it up and played around with it some. Got all of my Hulu and Netflix log ins entered and checked it out. I was streaming some CFB games on Saturday and a couple of times in the Florida FSU game it would buffer. And I was watching the Pregame before the Iron Bowl and it did the same. I ended up bringing the Roku down to the living room to watch the Iron Bowl because I didn't want any issues during that game.

Is this an ESPN thing being that both were big games? The stick did fine on anything not live. But that is one reason I bought it.

I didn't have any trouble streaming live WatchESPN, but I did have the device lock up when leaving the app twice, both times after having the stream go for a good while. It was unresponsive, then went to home menu and scrolled through all crazy like, and I had to unplug it. Wondering if it was a processing power or overheating issue. I had some stutter with Plex, that I didn't have when using a Chromecast as well. Me thinks it's those apps being written for the Fire TV and not being optimized yet for a less powerful device. I sure hope so, because otherwise it is a great little device, and my wife finds it much easier to use than the lack of UI of the Chromecast.

That's exactly what it did. It buffered a couple of times in the UF/FSU game, and when I exited that after the game it froze up, then did the scrolling thing. I hit the home button on the remote a couple of times, and then it was locked up and nothing on the remote would change it. I unplugged it, plugged it back in, and it was fine. Played a couple of shows on Netflix for my daughter, and it never did that. It only seemed to be on WatchESPN and none of the other apps.

I couldn't even force myself to watch, knowing it was LB's last game. I actually put up Christmas decorations for the kids so i'd have something happy and joyful to fill the day instead of torturing myself with yet another Troy loss.

any of you techy bros put XBMC on the fire stick? does it work pretty well, speed wise? i'm used to using the appletv anyway, so if it's a tad slow, that's alright.

I got mine today and installed Xbmc no problem. I also installed the superepo for ice films and it worked no problem. I may try sports devil tonight to see if sports streams work.

I installed the TVMC version that Busbeepbeep LINKEDlast week. The linked instructions were pretty easy and it works really well. This version already has icefilms, genesis and 1 channel (among others) loaded.
