The Steely Dan vs. Journey question is as perfect a comparison of style vs. substance that I can think of in the rock world.

One's preference in this instance says volumes about them.

I love reading all the judgemental bullshite. It makes me so happy that I'm open minded enough to like both bands.

Agree. But a lot of it is just lemmings wanting to seem too cool for pop.

At this stage, I prefer Steely Dan to listen to in the car, and probably in general.

But that would put people to sleep at a tailgate or some such place.

Don't agree. It's actually perfect for a tailgate since most people want to talk to other.

Most of the tailgates I walk around don't seem very mellow.

Let me rephrase, Steely Dan is perfect for a cocktail party atmosphere; not if you want to get loud.

Like I said, I like SD, but the "your a fool blah blah blah" crap is silly. Wannabe music critics turned on by Deep Tracks and bands no one has ever heard of.

All good by me.

Doesn't make your opinions any better than anyone else's.

And by "your" I don't just mean you.

If I like Miranda Cosgrove, and think she's good, all the guffawing and name calling doesn't make it untrue.

As all of you here are, I am a hypocrite though because I think anyone who thinks the Dead are good is brain dead.

Not all fools are dudes, so you would need to take a poll on that.

While it doesn't, it just so happens, they are. I was born with it. Nothing I can do about it.

Anyone who does not like Sugar Magnolia, Uncle John's Band and Friend of the Devil is music dead.

I don't concern myself with how it is rated. I just know those are 3 great songs.
