My dad is out of town for work and my mom wants to grab dinner with me this week. I've decided I want to try one of these 2 places since I haven't been to either. Which one is better? What are good dishes?

Tried noodle and pie once. It was good but didn't wow me. The fries with dried fish was good but overall just ok. Similar experience I had with that Asian place that just closed down in CBD (forgot the name)

I really like Noodle and Pie.

Get a large bowl of the house ramen and tell them you want to share it, they will bring out two smaller bowls.

The fries are good, but probably because I really enjoy katsuobushi.

Definitely try the green papaya salad... It has boiled shrimp on top of shredded, pounded green papaya with fish sauce, red chiles, cherry tomatoes, and fried peanuts. Ask them to make it Thai hot... It isn't overbearing and you need the heat to balance out the funky-ness of the fish sauce. I love it.

Dried fish sounds strange to me.

The fries with the dried fish are awesome. Really, really good. The Viet place on Maple also has unique Asian-style fries that are terrific.

I have not been to Casa Borrega so can't comment on its food. However, there is no way I'd take my mom to Central City.

You know, this may be a huge Duh for me.

I took your meaning to be Fried fish and not Dried fish.

I have had dried fish once or twice, cooked in some Asian dish.

Honestly, I did not care for them. Dog and snake were better IMO.

Of course, there is not much better than a nice fresh snake, skinned, steamed and served with some dipping sauce stir fried veggies and rice.

We really enjoy Cafe Borrega. Limited menu, but not a TexMex place by any stretch of the imagination. Great mole and damn fine cocktails. Only hesitation is whether your mom would care for the neighborhood (we've never had a problem there) and a somewhat funky decor (Mexican afterlife oriented).
