Pierre do you have a link or any other information on this diet? I would like to read up on it. The only problem I see with it is the lack of healthy fats. You can plenty of protein from plant sources and can supplement with a vegan protein powder. True nutrition.com has a good one at a good price. Let me know if you would like me to post some vegetarian recipes that I like.

The China Study and Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease are two books I have read about it. They don't agree on everything and I believe you have to modify it to fit your needs and lifestyle.

Regardless, my old diet wasn't working. Hypertension and high cholesterol run in my family and if I felt I needed to make a drastic change in my diet. I've only been on it for four days so I'll let you know how it worked out in about 30 days from now. If I see it works well, I will probably incorporate meat back into my diet on occasion.

Makes sure to try out some of the meat alternatives on the market. A lot are really over processed but some are really good. Seitan is my favorite. It is made with wheat gluten. It is really low in fat and carbs and high in fiber and protein. I also enjoy all of the quorn products.

Then youre screwed. Not eating meat will have an extreme minimal affect on cholesterol. Genetics and exercise are way more important factors.

So youre just assuming correlation equals causation? You dont think that has anything to do with the type of people that would be vegan/veg would typically be more conservative with diet, risks, and life in general. I would bet the percentage of smokers amongst vegans is significantly less as well.

Unfermented soy products leads to a drop in testosterone

Go after fiber in your diet - broccoli and greens and whatnot. Will help. I'm not officially vegetarian but I only eat meat a few times a month.

I do agree the vegans are generally going to more health conscious overall. Studies do show less incidences of heart disease, diabetes, etc in cultures that consume a more plant based diet even in the same regions as meat eating cultures though.

Studies have also shown the that eating meat, espeically red meat high in fat, has lowered cholesterol essentially debunking the lypid hypothesis which is what all of the meat/cholesterol nonsense is based off of.

How does it debunk it if others studies show the opposite? I think most things nutrition related are still up in the air.

You are being led down a path with no real research and laden with bullshite.

You NEED fat, you NEED saturated fat.

The whole "fat is bad" thing is an absolute farce. You may avoid heart problems (which are debatable), but you'll have low T, higher stroke risk, and a myriad of other issues.

I didn't want to name the book because I know it has it's detractors and people have strong feelings about the subject and there are no real answers. Plenty of myth and not definite answers.

I've clearly stated that I'm not following the diet 100% and have been careful not to claim that this diet is 100% correct for everybody.

I'll post again in a month if I truly have changed what I eat on a regular basis.

edited: didn't want this to turn into a nutritional debate, because honestly I don't know enough about it and don't want to debate myths and try and dissect and disprove scientific studies.

I agree Pierre. I also think most people can agree that most people will be healthier if they eat less meat and more fresh fruits and vegetables in their diet.
