Any particular reason it's non soy? Is something wrong with soy?

i probably use more oil/fats in my vegetarian dishes than when i am cooking with meat. also, i throw nuts and seeds and sometimes cheeses on salads when i dont add an animal protein. 10 pecans is like 210 calories so those can add up quick. goat cheese is my favorite because i can just do half an ounce for less than 50 calories and the flavor comes through more than most cheeses.

dont know if you do eggs at all but thats 70 calories a pop.

Go with low carb/high fat. I've lost 15 pounds that I couldn't lose on low fat. Feel great. Have 1 cheat meal a week to watch LSU games

Just to give you an example of what I might eat in a day....

This morning I had a protein shake that is 28 grams protein and 140 calories. I also brought an Amy's tamale verde and cheese microwave dinner which is four hundred calories. I like these because they are cheap, organic, and preservative free. I also have a mixed green salad with tomatoes, mushrooms, red peppers, a half cup of chickpeas, two tablespoons feta, and light vinagrette. I have three cheese sticks and three boiled eggs as well. After the gym I will have another shake and for dinner probably another salad or cook a light meal using some sort of meat substitute or a high protein low carb mung bean pasta with marinara.

It's the prevent and reverse heart disease diet. Pretty much no diary and cheese, no oils or nuts, no avocados.

So your doctor doesn't want you to have protein or fat? To be honest most doctors dont know jack shite about proper diet. They dont really take nutrition classes in med school. I would ask him why you shouldn't have healthy fats like nuts and avocados.

No. Plant protein is fine. Casein protein from animals and saturated fats are bad. Plant protein and unsaturated fats are fine.

Sounds like your doctor does not know what he is talking about.

Sounds like 'ol doc is a vegan and pushing his agenda after watching Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead and the myriad of other anti-fat, anti-meat propaganda films.

Plant protein is not complete. Veggie diet people have the same mortality rate as full blown meat eaters. The best diet is seafood/fish and veggies.

Some plant proteins are complete, plus you can combine different plant proteins like beans and rice to get a complete protein.

Actually recent studies show vegetarians have lower mortality rates than meat eaters.

Over about 6 years, there were 2,570 deaths among the participants. The researchers found that vegetarians (those with vegan, and lacto-ovo-, pesco-, and semi-vegetarian diets) were 12% less likely to die from all causes combined compared to nonvegetarians. The death rates for subgroups of vegans, lacto-ovo–vegetarians, and pesco-vegetarians were all significantly lower than those of nonvegetarians. Those on a vegetarian diet tended to have a lower rate of death due to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and renal disorders such as kidney failure. No association was detected in this study between diet and deaths due to cancer. The researchers also found that the beneficial associations between a vegetarian diet and mortality tended to be stronger in men than in women

As posted above, many plant proteins are complete. Animal protein by many sources tend to contribute to heart disease for individuals with a history. A more plant based diet has been know to reduce cholesterol and blood pressure in individuals with hypertension.

I love North African cuisine. If you have any more recipes please share them. I was thinking about starting a shakshuka thread. Have you ever had it?
