It's obvious he will follow Wojo and become a head coach. With how smart of a player he was, will be a successful one. But where does he rank playing wise?

He played the most consecutive games in Duke history (144), shot the third-highest free throw percentage (.861), shot the third-most free throws (608), shot the fourth-most 3-pointers (297), and is ranked ninth in scoring (2,077 points). He holds the ACC single-season record for minutes (1,470; in 2009–10) and the Duke freshman free throw record (115), shares the Duke record for points off the bench in a game (27), and had the third-longest streak of consecutive free throws in Duke history (40).

I'd say he has to be a top 10 player of all time.

Top 10 all time player there, for sure. Never is appreciated enough. He was the most consistent player in his four years that I've ever seen there. It was literally like every time he had the ball, something good happened.

His contributions there cannot be overstated.

Production wise I guess the argument can be made. Talent wise, nah. With players leaving early, players like Scheyer who stay 4 years will always have the statistical advantage in these discussions.

His assist to turnover rate was one of the best ever at Duke.

Top 10. Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler had better overall careers but Scheyer was the MVP of the title team.

The only athlete I can ever remember to unanimously shut up his haters

a top 10 would have:
Reddick
Laetner
WoJo
Battier
Grant Hill
Johnny Dawkins
Hurley
Danny Ferry

i think those 8 are no brainers. It's hard to pick guys that played for a year, or two.

I'd pick any two of these 3 next.
Jay Williams
Scheyer
Brand

These guys could make a case but i dont' think they are top 10.
Boozer
Langdon
Singler
Dunleavy
Parks
Shelden Williams

Among the older guys, you'd have Dawkins for sure, Heymann, Jeff Mullins, Dick Groat, Gminski, and Gene Banks. All have retired jerseys but Banks, but Banks was the first black superstar for Duke and the first recruit they got from the inner city. All played in the NBA besides Groat who was a 10+ year MLB vet.

Scheyer maximized his talent and did everything asked of him but he's only top 20 for me. I'd rate him ahead of Singler though. Shelden, too.

I'd definitely add Williams to that list as well. He was fortunate to be able to step into a situation where Duke needed to replace Redick. He had a great opportunity to come in and put up stats. He was also a career 40% shooter. He was a good player... but I wouldn't consider him elite and it's hard to put him in a top 10 list talent wise.

Some of y'all are so dense. We're not talking about NBA success or raw talent. Scheyer was one of the greatest leaders in Duke history. He was one of the most clutch players they ever had. He was a 2 guard who led the team to the championship as a converted point guard. In doing so he had an insane assist to turnover ratio. One of the best shooters they ever had, one of the best passers they ever had, etc.

It's hard to compare him to the 3 year guys like Williams, Dunleavy, Boozer (and Brand who only stayed for 2) since so much of Scheyers accomplishments happened his senior year. I'd take Singler and Shelden Williams just barely over Scheyer, so he's probably top 15/20 for me.

well of course there are.
Maggette
Rivers
Irving
They are all better than Scheyer, but you ask any Duke fan and they'd take 4 years of Scheyer over a year of those 3.
I don't know of anyone that played 1 year and got them a championship and left, like Anthony Davis or Carmelo or Derrick Rose(didnt' win but got pretty damn close)
