Greektown had some small places to grab some really good Greek food.

Fishbone's wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Foran's Grand Trunk Pub was awesome for beer and pub food

Hudson Cafe for breakfast, awesome food. Owner/chef was proud of his product and made some killer french pastry.

Short Cab/Uber drive
Green Dot Stables, Sliders and Cocktail Bar
Mercury Bar, decent beer and good burger.

The Old Shillelagh was a pretty cool bar. Three stories with three totally different vibes going on. Would be there at night no doubt.

Casino kind of sucks, have to stop selling alcohol at 2am, yeah even the casinos.

ETA: I think there was a Texas De Brazil we passed.

Slow's BBQ and Mercury Burger are both real good and across the street from each other. There is a large Greek area downtown that has great food also.

Pizza Papalis, Slow's Barbecue, Green Dot Stables are all really good as well. I'd stay away from Fishbone's...one of the worst meals I've had to pay for. I'm a Louisiana boy that moved up to Michigan about a year ago. You can also check out Lafayette and American Coney Islands. Lafayette is better in my opinion, but it's nothing to scream home about!

Also...can't recommend any steakhouses. I usually just cook my own. Check out Urbanspoon.com. You can find the most popular places and take it from there. I'll be there...tailgating and teaching these people about jambalaya!

The greater Detroit area has some awesome food.
--Achatz Pies; run by Chicago chef Grant Achatz' cousin, awesome pies using great Michigan fruits (think cherries, blueberries, etc). LINK
--American Coney Island, a Detroit institution. Gotta have a coney while in MI: LINK
--Zingermans's deli, bakery, roadhouse, etc: get in the car and drive to Ann Arbor for deli awesomeness. Zingerman's is a family of food businesses. Excellent quality, and the deli has a retail food section. LINK
--Shatila Sweets, in Dearborn. Famous middle eastern bakery. Dearborn has a huge enclave of middle eastern immigrants. Try La Pita for good mediterranean food in the same town.

Detroit is full of hipsters right now. You can find everything from Trader Joe's to old school Polish grocery stores.

Roma Cafe
Giovanni's
Bucharest Grill
Ottava Via
Mercury Bar and Grill
Green Dot Stables
Michael Symon's Roast
Thomas MaGees Sporting House and Whiskey Bar ( drinks only, no food)
Lafayette Coney Island
Hamtramck for old school bars and Polish food
Nancy Whiskeys (bar)
Mexican Village ( neighborhood for Mexican/ Latin food)
Cadieux Cafe ( old school Belgian bar)
Motor City Brewing Works

Use Uber or something similar, as Detroit is not a cab town
Use common sense as you would in any urban sera and you' ll be fine
Detroiters are proud of their city and are decent people

There's a bomb sushi place in the airport, baw. Other than that, I have no idea. It is too dangerous to leave the airport.

This was kind of a letdown for me. Much preferred Atwater for a brewery/brewpub.

For straight up beer Grand Trunk had a killer local selection.

Plenty of brewpubs to visit if you have a vehicle.

It is Chicago style. Apparently there's a Detroit Style pizza, but all it is is deep dish (lots of bread), and squared. If you're willing I go to the Ann Arbor area, there's Aubree's which has some of the best pizzas, Bigalora, and Zingerman's is great...but it's hard to justify paying $15 for a cold cut sandwich. I do it every now and then, but not often.
