I was comped a 3-night stay at IP in a couple weeks, and I haven't been to that area in quite some time. This was a list of places that was given to me -- anybody have any opinions or input about any of them?

Mary Mahoney's is legit. I'd definitely go there one night.

I'll second Mary Mahoney's. Really good bar. Get the marinated crab claws. Plus, they fill the urinals with ice. That's class.
I'm a big fan of Government Street Grocery in Ocean Springs. It's like Chelsea's Cafe, but with a better beer selection and better food. Good burgers and they make this stuff called beach bread that's super tasty, but I'm sure so bad for you.

I could care less how bad it is for you. Only live once, might as well die fat and happy

People will say Mahoney's is overrated, but it's really the best place out that way. By a lot.
Half Shell is good for oysters, but nothing mind blowing.
You should check out a few places in the Beau. BR Prime and Jia are solid offerings, though can get pricey.
Sycamore House is decent. But they have this pretentiousness about them that just rubs me the wrong way. Id almost rather just go to Trapani's if im in BSL.
Bacchus is decent as well but it is just missing something. Some of the dishes are just thrown together like you would if you threw something together quick in your kitchen... which is fine, but it seems like they are going for a more upscale feel. I dont know, just seems like an amateur operation with no direction. But the food itself isnt bad, though it is a little overpriced.

If they come this far west (Bay St Louis) then Trapani's is the definite choice, trout dishes are the best on the coast. Their Amandine kicks serious arse. The Blind Tiger is the best place to catch an SEC game and have some beer. Lil Joes, in the Depot district, has the best poboys and fried seafood. 200 N. Beach has the best bar if you're looking for a quality mixed drink. Brooklyn's or Sycamore house for pizza depending on the style you like. Grammy's for breakfast.

Blind Tiger is a cool spot to grab drinks. Their menu is pretty limited and the food leaves a lot to be desired. It has potential, though.

I usually just order some french fries and have a beer or three. It's bar food at best.
We've been eating at Trapani's more and more recently.
A new bar is about to open, called Bouy's, on the marina side of the road and we're all pretty excited. Should be great to have another one to spread it all out a bit.

Nothin' but the best.

I've never tried Trapani's, and I've always wanted to, but a friend of mine said it's gone downhill (he doesn't know much about food though). I'm thinking I'll give it a shot.

Yea, it went through a rough patch while on the highway and it took some lumps in it's new building, but they're relatively consistent now. I'm not too adventurous with what I order so I tend to be very pleased with my dinner. Gotta come check out the harbor if you haven't seen it.

I plan on going floundering/crabbing while I'm over there; I've heard they have a good spot near Island View or behind Silver Slipper.
Posted on 9/26/14 at 2:42 pm to Draven
Island View and the Slipper are far from each other and you'll pass a ton of good places in between. I'm going to try and round up a redfish or two with my boy this weekend. Not sure where though. I don't have a boat, so it'll either be off a pier or while doing some minor trespassing.

Us too Gaston...
Seems like its becoming much more consistent. shite the burger even isn't half bad...
I think what I like the most about his trout stuff is that you are getting a nice filet. You aren't getting a schoolie trout thats for damn sure. Probably going to go Saturday since we are heading back for a visit. I've been there more since i've left then I was when we lived in BSL. Much better food now...
Anything on Old Cuevas???

I hear they're looking for a new spot. They wanted to move into the club house in Timber Ridge, but those broke dicks wanted to charge them an insane amount. Probably not the best spot in the world, but it's ready to go. I wish they would have got the Bacchus on the Bay spot. I think they would have killed it there. I wish they'd get their product out soon.
My son loves Trapani's spaghetti and meatballs and the old chicken strip app that's still in the computers, though not on the menu, so we eat there quite a bit.

Oh, wow! I didn't know that Old Cuevas burned! I sure wish they would reopen in Timber Ridge. We will be buying a 2nd home in Timber Ridge in the next year and I would love to have a good restaurant close by.
We are looking forward to trying Buoy's also.
Would also like to add to the OP, that if you like dive restaurants, try Darwell's in Long Beach by the railroad tracks.

My husband likes the burger (not the one smothered with etoufee'.....gross). I love this dish:The Blackened Combo- 4oz Filet Mignon Cut up and Blackened, 4oz of Jumbo Lump Crabmeat, Dozen Blackened Shrimp. I get it with the grilled asparagus or their baked beans which are really good and topped with smoked pulled pork.
