If you're Michigan how do you NOT try to get Les and/or Cam?

Not saying it will happen, but their program is lukewarm garbage. I think they would pursue Cam as much if not more than Les.

Hadn't considered Cam. Makes sense. That'd be bad news for LSU though.

Cam is like chief in that he's much better as a coordinator.

Maybe so but his resume is impeccable and he has major Michigan ties, obviously.

I don't know how good Les would be without the talent he gets truthfully.

Not really. He's been fired many times it's not like he left jobs for better jobs on his own.

You HAVE to come after Les. It's his dream job. Though LSU is his home.

Michigan's made two terrible hires while Les continues to win at an 80% clip at LSU. You can't explain to your fans not making Les your #1 choice.

Can Les say no three times? Though there is some discrepancy whether or not he's been offered twice.

I thought you meant Cam Newton at first.

I think Cam would be a good pick up for them.

I don't think Les goes to Michigan, he would have gone earlier in his career if he was going to leave. Isn't Manny Miles looking there?

The only selling point is it's Les's alma mater. LSU blows Michigan out of the water in every other factor. He's not giving all that up for sentimentality.

I don't think Les wants to go back to Michigan. He's 60 years old, I doubt he's up for a rebuilding job when he can just sit at LSU where he's surrounded by 5 star recruits (talking about the entire SE + Texas).

As for Cam, I don't think Michigan is going to hire someone with as poor a HC record as he has.

Cam has been a head coach for two teams

Indiana 18-37

Dolphins 1-15

Michigan's better off trying to convince a Harbaugh to come coach for them. John has been quoted as being "jealous" of coaches like Miles who have a program and complete control. It's a long shot, but it's the first call that should be made.

After that, they should look for coaches looking to get back in the college game, like maybe Chip Kelly if he gets his arse kicked this year. THough, that's still doubtful because he's doing pretty decent.

The next step is trying to lure a big time coach who is proven, but isn't at as big a program as Michigan. Not that many to choose from who aren't either old or at a better program. Bielema, Tuberville, Kyle Whittingham.

The next step is going the obscure NFL reject route. (Jim Mora, Jr. type candidate)

Then, I guess settle for small school coaches or assistants like Kirby Smart.

I hope LSU doesn't have to find a coach after this year. The pickings seem mighty slim.

They just "stole" Bama's OC and got shut out. I don't think Kirbs is their guy.

I can't believe I'm typing this but Jason Garrett might not be the worst option for them once he gets fired from the Cowboys after this season.

Before Miles was hired, our hiring committee brought up the scenario of him possibility returning to Michigan (during the interview). CLM's response, "Why would I ever leave LSU for Michigan?"

This response and his capability to beat Stoops with far less talent is why he is our coach & not Bobby Petrino

eta: he's not leaving.

I can't really think of who Michigan would go after.

Saban isn't leaving Alabama.
Miles isn't leaving LSU.
Jimbo isn't leaving FSU.
Meyer isn't leaving tOSU, especially for Michigan.

Ok, we knock those four out of contention. Now we've gotta think at this point Michigan isn't willing to settle for someone. They want the absolute best they can get.

Would Gus leave Auburn? I don't think so, but I'd make a big time offer.

Would Sumlin leave A&M? I think if he were to do it, it'd either be for the NFL or one of the top CFB programs. Michigan fits into the latter category, so I make a big time offer. If he takes it, great. If not, you've got to move on.

At that point, I'm not sure who I'd offer. Smart is enticing, but he isn't a proven HC. Is Chris Petersen a guy who could succeed at Michigan? Is Kiffin ready to be a HC again after only one season with Saban? Too many questions for me to figure how where I'd look next. Someone from the NFL? I don't think Kelly is coming back to college because he is building a solid Eagles team. One of the Harbaugh brothers? If Jim is gonna come back to CFB, it may be a while. He's got something good going on over there with the Niners. John could be a target. Cam Cameron is an interesting option as well, but his HC record leaves a bit to be desired. No denying he's an offensive mastermind though.
