Just reading White Blaze Fever and wondering if any brave hearty soul in the OT had done it.

There have been some threads about it, you've got to have some time on your hands.
Good luck if you get it done.

Father in law has done it and loved every second of it. Got some awesome pictures.

I have done the smokies portion, wish I had the time/energy to do the whole thing. Maybe in retirement, but most likely not because I won't be able to retire before I die.

Just the Appalachian Trail or the whole Eastern Continental? I met a guy nearing the end of the Eastern Continental and from Maine to Alabama had taken him nearly 7 or 8 months or something.

We should get another Hiking/Camping thread on OB.

Yeah, that one rocked. One of the best threads we've had over there.

I've done some out and back day hikes in the Appalachian trail in PA while I was in college. Never hiked more then a few hours on that particular trail.

I've become a huge fan of the PCT blogs. One day (when I retire) I'll attempt them.

I've hiked portions of it
A good and funny read on the subject is Bill Bryson's A Walk In The Woods

Several years ago on vacation in Shenandoah National Park, VA we were on a short mile or two hike from a parking area just off the main road through the park and crossed paths with a young 20-something year old guy who had started from Maine in April and was heading to Georgia.
This was in early June and the guy was alone. He had full facial hair and looked like someone out of "Grizzly Adams" but was a real nice guy. We talked for a few minutes about his journey and about how he would walk into the nearest town every few days to wash up and restock supplies. He said he stayed mostly at hostels.
I didn't even realize at the time, until he told us, that the trail we were on overlapped with a very small portion of the Appalachian Trail. We were about as different as two 'hikers' could be - full gear and large backpack versus tennis shoes, t-shirt, and shorts.

I have been to the Smokies a few times and that sign that says "Maine 1890 mi." is scary lol
My grandfather walked it from Georgia to Maryland I think. A buddy got hurt and he had to stop it. This was when he was 18, so 1958.
