quote:

Gotham Chopra, the director of "Kobe Bryant's Muse", an upcoming documentary on Bryant, told a story about being with Kobe and watching the Nets and the Heat play. Recounts Chopra, "Deron Williams went like 0-for-9. I was like, 'Can you believe Deron Williams went 0-9?' Kobe was like, 'I would go 0-for-30 before I would go 0-for-9. 0-for-9 means you beat yourself, you psyched yourself out of the game, because Deron Williams can get more shots in the game. The only reason is because you've just now lost confidence in yourself.'"

Is this the least surprising quote in the history of the world?

I say yes.

You always hear coaches tell their players to keep shooting and play their game.

So it's not outlandish advice on Kobe's part.

I kind of get his point.

A good shooter should keep shooting through a slump not shut himself down. Obviously it looks worse on a stat sheet, but mentally it is the right approach for a professional athlete, imo.

Well deron Williams averaged 11 shots a game last year. So 9 shots is a pretty normal night for him. He just happened to miss them all. Doesn't really mean he avoided scoring opportunities. Kobe is stupid.

That's 21 more shots someone not sucking arse could have taken.

Yup, I agree. In that situation a player is doing his team a disservice by not continuing to challenge the defense.

Of course shooting into oblivion is dumb

It would be great to watch Kobe play with a PG that went 0-30.

I'm sure he would be happy that his PG didn't stop shooting.

Hes right.. If youre a shooter.. You shot and as long as the coach keeps you in, thats your job

ETA: I wouldn't say that Williams is a shooter though

You don't see a problem with a guy shooting again after he's already missed 29 shots in a game?

I don't feel like that's inherently a bad philosophy. My problem with Kobe has always been his tendency to settle for bad shots, not how much he shoots.

Depends on the game and situation.

30th shot is an independent event from the other 29.

It's a terrible point. He'd rather keep shooting and hurting his team because he's Kobe frickin Bryant. Nothing admirable about that.
