I bought my 1911 the day I looked at it. There was no waiting period. Went down...told the guy I wanted the Springfield RO...looked it over, filled out the forms, got a couple boxes of target ammo..and to the front of the store we went to pay for it.
Reader's digest truncated version of course....Mrs had to get comfortable for her future CC weapon as well...

But there was no wait for us at all here in Alabama. Is that a state by state thing?

When they call in your paper work, sometimes that will be slow

It's more of a race or thuggy-thug thing.

Yep. I had to wait. So I used my shotgun. Messier than I was planning for.

So maybe all those NCIC background checks I've had done on me through the years by NASA has actually helped....well that and the fact the worst thing I've ever had was a speeding ticket and seatbelt tickets...

I think delays may be due to having a common name. Ie, Tom Smith has a felony record but Tom Smith is clean.

I have an unusual name and I've never been delayed.

I am a Canadian citizen, I am delayed 100% of the time, sometimes an hour sometimes a couple of days.

Yes it is a state by state thing. There is no federal waiting period. Also don't get the delay in processing the "paperwork" confused with manditory waiting periods, they are two separate things

I'd say person to person. I've never had to wait for a long gun, but had a 3 day wait on all hand guns. No arrests on record.

Some states (California comes to mind) have mandatory waiting periods. I think California's is 7 days or something. Fill out your paperwork, get approved, come back in so many days to get gun.

If I remember correctly, when I bought my RO they did a quick check and told me I came up "flagged" or some term like that. I had to wait a bit longer to pick it up.

I had been arrested for suspicion of DUI a few months prior so I'm guessing that was the problem. It was dropped a few days after I was arrested and I picked up my gun without problem.

Me neither, picked out a pistol 15 minutes before closing at Academy and walked out the store with it that night. In Mississippi, btw.

No phone call needed for buyers with a concealed carry permit.

Usually, if you look really angry and say something to the clerk like, "Hurry up. I got a date to shoot that bitch," the background check return gets delayed.

In some states, including Louisiana since August 1st, there is no background check for those who posses a concealed carry permit. You still fill out the form, you just don't have to wait for the background check.

Ah, I was wondering. I know I still fill out the form.
