FERGUSON, Mo. -- The officer who shot and killed an unarmed teenager in Ferguson, Missouri was injured in the alleged altercation, according to Ferguson Chief of Police Tom Jackson.
Jackson, who spoke on the phone with News 4's Laura Hettiger Wednesday morning, said the officer "was hit" and the "side of his face was swollen." The chief did not say if the officer suffered any broken bones.

Do folks really believe that he just hopped out of his patrol car and gunned down someone? Im not sure if the use of deadly force was justified or not, but I do believe that will be the question that needs to be answered. This narrative that these two were just minding their own business and had no altercation with the officer has always seemed very suspect.

Will be interesting to see when the facts of the case start to paint a clearer picture of what transpired.

I find it interesting that the one piece of info the police feels comfortable leaking makes their case look good. And by interesting, I mean predictable and boring.

I think saw somewhere that Brown was 6'4" so not a small dude. Definitely could do some damage in a fight. I'm hopeful there is video just to put this to bed one way or the other.

Im assuming you think they should release the name of the officer involved? A name was leaked and turned out to be inaccurate and that officer received death threats.

I dont know if they should or shouldnt.

They did release more information in the presser today as well.

Yes, there are people out there whose knee-jerk reaction to white-on-black or cop-on-black violence is that it was solely due to racism.

The witnesses will claim Brown was gunned down without providing provocation and those inclined to believe that rendering of the facts will gladly do so.

The cops will claim the officer feared for his life and those inclined to believe that rendering of the facts will gladly do so.

Without solid evidence, one way or the other, facts are what you believe them to be.

I don't have a problem with them not releasing his name.

Eta: yet.

Bingo.

Not saying it's BS, but the timing and it being really the only info on the officer they've released is suspect.

As opposed to trotting out the "witness", after receiving coaching from the Brown family's attorneys, in front of the media to tell his side? Before every giving his statement to inverstigators?

The big tell tale will be if the FBI finds no civil rights violations, once that happens you can bet they would believe that there was an altercation and that it will be up to the courts to determine if deadly force was justified based on that facts.

If it wasnt, I hope the officer is charged and sees punishment. Im not taking a side in any way, I just always though the narrative presented early own seemed sketchy to me.

have they released any info on the Brown's criminal history? I think there's only so much they can do at the point to calm the situation.

They trotted out the witness in front of camera crews to tell his side in which he said there was no altercation.

Seems like a measured response honestly.

What did you expect from Junior Bosley? Lol. Yeah, that seems obvious, too.

These police departments need a whole new paradigm in how to control information. This Chinese water torture method in the age of social media is a loser. They should have had a statement out on this within 4-6 hours. That's plenty of time to take it and even vet it a bit. They let the narrative stew on social media for almost 24 hours and it blew up on them. Now they're trying to put toothpaste back in the tube.

As far as I can tell, he has no adult record.

I agree with this completely. I think the decisions on shifting the case to St Louis county police and the FBI involvement played a part in the lack of dissemination of information in a timely manner.

I dont even want to start talking about the parochial nature of the st louis suburbs and the over abundance of small municipalities that dot the county. Thats a whole other subject that drives me crazy.

Perhaps.

Honestly, based on things I've read on Twitter from journalists on the ground there, I get the impression the Ferguson Police Department is pretty inept. A few journalists have mentioned how arrogant the chief comes off, and how flippant a lot of the officers are. Almost like they're not appreciating the severity of this incident.

.

Grow up. I'd rather accurate information a few days later than a twitter circus of unsourced, unverified bullshite information that normally follows events such as these.

Have seen the 6'3"-6'4" height in a number of mainstream news stories. What doesn't make sense is that Brown's companion said that the cop grabbed Brown by the neck while he was still seated in his police car and Brown was outside the car. Johnson said nothing about Brown leaning his head down toward the car door, so just how long were that cop's arms?

I would be interested in reading some of what these journalists said if you wouldnt mind linking to the articles.

I think he did to harass someone...someone who kept it real. Officer Brown kepts it realzer

he's a cop...a punch to the face doesn't call for lethal force.
