This couple that I know recently had a child and named the child after the husband's best friend. Is this weird to you guys?

I would typically think that if you're naming your child after someone it would be an older relative, yourself, or someone influential in your life. Or, you'd just choose a traditional (or non-traditional) name that you like.

Maybe I'm an a-hole (probably the case ) but I think it's weird as shite to name your kid after your best friend (these guys are the same age and hang out together all the time). Almost like he looks up or idolizes his friend (I've long thought this).

Anyway, what say you OT, weird or not weird?

Did the best friend save his life?

I've heard of it. Usually a middle-name or something, though.

It's pretty common to name a child after his father

Weird as shite. Unless the friend died saving the dad's life or something.

As long as your best friend isn't named Jayden, Aiden, Brayden, or Kaiden, go for it.

My best friend died about eight years ago. I used to say I would name my first boy after him. But his name did suck. lol

I'm not sure if it's the wife or husband that has thought about this

Most names are selected randomly.
At least this name has a meaning of sorts.

It is a strange name, but not along those lines.

I mean, if my best friend died tragically, I'd almost certainly name a kid after him. But if he was alive and well, that's just weird.
