Does Sysco sell this stuff by the 55 gallon drum? My wife and I have a standing bet, she always asks what the SDJ is, if it's tomato bisque we split a dessert, it has been a while since I didn't have to buy dessert.

We were in Lafayette today and had lunch at Le Bon Temps, a very nice, although a tad noisy from tin ceilings, little bistro, I thought for sure we'd break away from that tomato bisque bunch in BR, I was wrong.

BTW, if you go to Le Bon Temps, be sure to get the crawfish pot pie.

Probably because it's one of the easiest soups to make.

Tomato season. I've posted a good smoked tomato bisque in the RT. It's from Cuvée Bistro.

That's crazy. I guess next you'll tell me you're seeing lots of watermelon, squash and stuff everywhere too.

Must be coincidence because I love tomato soup, and it's rarely the soup of the day when I ask.

Solid post. I used to work in wholesale food distribution and we sold frozen soup in a bag like everyone else. I recently ate at one of my old employers customers and the 'Soup of the Day' menu for the week read like an order guide out of my computer. There were some pretty good options but nothing beats homemade.

I made tomato basil soup over the weekend. I love that soup. My favorite, though, is a roasted tomato soup I posted here a while back. I don't order it in a restaurant much unless I'm sure it's made in house, but it's a soup I enjoy and you can make a good one with canned tomatoes, even, using fresh herbs. I put sherry in the one I made recently per Pioneer Woman and I enjoyed that addition.

I feel the same way about 1)cream of broccoli w/cheese 2)corn (or crawfish) & crab bisque and 3)baked potato/cream of potato. Same old blah.

I saw part of one of the restaurant fix up shows and the soup of the day was the same one every day.

I've never had a good version of this soup. I make it from time to time for my sister's 90 something year old father-in-law, though, because he loves the stuff. I've made a pretty good version of a roasted broccoli soup/bisque that works. Totally different flavor.

I like this soup a few times a year with crawfish during corn and crawfish season with a corn stock from the cleaned ears. It's really good when the corn is fresh. I sometimes make it in the winter with corn and andouille. Decent use of corn that's not that fresh and the andouille adds a lot of flavor. I like a cup in the winter with a grilled cheese sandwich.

I make a plain version of this that I keep in the freezer for days when I'm feeling puny. I can add whatever I feel up to at the time. That's the only time I eat it, though, and it's pureed not the chunky style which I detest.

I also keep beef vegetable soup in the freezer for the same reason, though I like it even when I'm not feeling puny. I love soups, though. I could eat a soup of some sort every day.
