The 5c employs the A6, which is a two year old SoC. It's not "junk", but it is computationally inferior to the A7.

Apple wasn't being hyperbolic when they stated that the A7 is a "desktop class architecture". It can run ARMv8 instruction sets and can decode and process 6 instructions per clock cycle, which is double what other CPUs (such as the Krait cores in the Snapdragon SoCs) can handle. This is what allows Apple to clock the CPU cores at ~1.2 Ghz while increasing performance. It's all about IPS, and if your architecture is more efficient, you can afford to lower the clock speed without consequences.

So, I wouldn't recommend a 5c over a 5s. At this point, though, if you want an iPhone, I would suggest waiting about a month for the iPhone 6.

Obviously, it will depend on the storage size for the model you're interested in. Generally, a subsidized 16 GB model runs around $199, while a 32 GB phone will cost $299, and so forth.

Last I heard, Apple was trying to get carriers to bump the subsidized cost of the iPhone 6 to $299 and up. Not sure if they've been successful. Also, a rumor is that the 6 will start at 32GB.

The whole subsidized phone thing won't last much longer I'm afraid.

Or just wait and see what the reality is. Rumors are rumors. And when the 6 comes out, the 5c will be even cheaper.

I have the 5c and absolutely love it. I'm not a phone snob though.

yeah i think I'm just gonna stick with the 5c for some reasons and if I want to upgrade down the road before my contract expires I'll just pay the fee. The Iphone 6 doesnt seem THAT big of a difference other than an A8 chip and sapphire screen. I'm not a fan of the huge tablet sized phone either.

I would get the 5 before the 5c.

My understanding of the 5c was that they just took the 4s components and put them in a plastic 5 case. So I'd agree that a 5 would probably be better than the 5c.

I think that will be for the 5.5" version.

Not true. All the carriers have their version of the NEXT or EDGE program now which is still a subsidy program that they are pushing hard.

They quit selling the 5 when the 5c came out, so you can not get a new iPhone 5 anymore.

Brettesaurus is correct, they took the 5 components and put them in the 5c, not the 4S components.

$299 and a two year contract? Just wow.

Not gonna lie this latest iPhone upgrade appears solid but that price is insanity.

Nexus 6 will be a superior phone at the same price and NO contract

It was a huge improvement over the old 4S I had. I didn't want to pay twice as much for the 5S. Didn't care for the fingerprint, dual flash, and internals that much to pay twice as much for it. And my wife drowned hers about 3 months after we bought them. Ran it through the laundry and killed it. She found an old Verizon 4S on craigslist and is using it, but every time she wants a picture of something she uses mine if we're together. It takes much better pictures than the older ones, so I don't know where you get the meh in pictures.

And my battery life has been fine. I don't stream a bunch of stuff and have done all the little tips and tricks to save battery life and it still has a good 30% charge left at the end of the day, and that is using it moderately throughout the day.
