Something fairly easy to get to. Just passing thru. Type of food doesn't really matter. Tia

...or Saw's Soul Food in Avondale.

Both great choices.

Probably just a personal preference......didn't really like Saws at all.....either location.....definitely stay away from the boudin....They were very nice, saw my LSU cap and sent out the boudin on the house which was very nice.

I've noticed that quite a few people from Louisiana claim to hate the boudin at Saws. But if there's anything I've learned from my parents and through my own personal experience, most people from Louisiana claim that all Louisiana food found in states not named Louisiana are subpar.

The boudin at Saws is good. It tastes like boudin if you like boudin.

But the rest of Saws is what puts them on the pedestal of best BBQ in the state of Alabama. Their ribs are unmatched and they always have a slough of unique and tasty sides available.

Well I'm here now so I guess I can form my own opinion. Didn't order no boudin though.

I love boudin and make it & order it online quite often......Saws does not taste like GOOD boudin

FWIW I didn't try the ribs and the pork and chicken for me were underwhelming.....Admittedly I am a brisket person......there were some good sides, though I don't go to a BBQ places for the sides. I'm not one of the if it isn't from La it can't be good crowd

I got the sampler. 2 ribs, chicken hip with white sauce, pig butt, beans and tater salad. Sweet tea.

My thoughts:

Place is small and slammed. Gumps ereywhere. I wedged my purple and gold clad arse right in amongst em though. Placed my order with the friendly black chick who recognized me as a foreigner and steered me toward the sampler platter. 5 minutes later they bring it to me.

Service- Not much too it. You order, they bring it. But they were friendly.

Atmosphere-- Small and crammed with Gumps.

Chicken hips- pretty damn good. Cooked well and I like the white sauce. Although it just sits atop the skin and doesn't add much too the bird unless you drag a piece thru it. Which I did. Not knock your socks off bird, but real solid.

Pork- About like the chicken. Pulled pork done really well. Not zomg the best pork evar, but I enjoyed the hell out of it. I bet the sandwiches are great.

Ribs- Zomg the best ribs evar. If they had Dreamlands sauce they would be anyway. Perfectly cooked ribs. Fantastic.

Beans- pretty much sucked. Taste like canned beans with some kind of wang. In all my travels the best baked beans I've come across are at Danken Trail in Monroe. That's still the case.

Tater Salad- I liked it. Different texture than most. Like they pulse it in a FP a little bit. I ate it all.

Sweet tea- Will put the Wilford Brimley on you with the quickness. Had to wade back thru the sea of Gumps to cut it with some unsweet.

Anyway, the place is legit IMO. I will stop again.

Those ribs look real nice. Agree with Dreamland sauce because I love the stuff.

The Avondale location is the best, IMO.

Next time get the smoked wings. KILLER

I also liked the potato salad.

Not as many gumps as you might think. There are a lot of transplants in Birmingham.

Glad you got the ribs. They are my favorite restaurant ribs. Much better than Dreamlands, Jim and Nicks, Miss Myra's and Full Moon.

Mister P's does have good lunch sandwiches and some very solid butchered cuts. Great filets at a good price. I've heard their brisket is legit.
