This goes for both reading and/or writing reviews. I have a modest amount of reviews on US but thinking about switching to yelp since you can review non dining establishments there.

Really? When I'm in a new area I use urbanspoon most popular restaurants thing to decide where to eat. So yelp is better? Does it have a similar function to group restaurants by popularity and city?

I used the yelp app exclusively to pull up what was near me and see the star ratings on each. Then I could look at the map to see location or click to get more information such as the menu on a restaurant

I use Yelp first but I also like to confirm on US…some Yelpers suck and it affects the restaurants rating pretty bad

For example, waiter brought me an old fashioned and it sucked!! 1-star or there was a 45-minute wait but I saw 3 open tables!!! 1-star

There are not only also photos on Yelp, but there are almost always more and better quality.

I'm not a huge Yelp fan (prefer this site), but of the two, Yelp is much preferred.

Yep.

And they'll give 4 stars instead of 5 to a place that they have 0 complaints about.

I read both, but honestly I think people are idiots and it's just for fun. Reviews, for anything, from people you don't know are completely worthless.

I may be in the minority, but I prefer Urbanspoon. On a whole, their posters seem to be more knowledgeable.
