So we are on our way to Destin and decided to stop at The Shed for lunch. I've seen the shows that race about the food and read reviews here that are both good and bad.

My opinion is that it wasn't that great. It was good. Meat was tender, not much smoke flavor and too much sauce. I doubt I'll stop again.

It's about as bad as Dickey's and Voo Doo.

The shed didn't have corn pudding so I'd probably put voodoo ahead lol

It's an OK place. The owners are a lot better at getting publicity for their business than they are at cooking barbecue.

I'm of the same opinion. Nothing amazing at all.

We stop every time we head in that direction. Good beer selection, nice atmosphere. Sure the BBQ isn't the best that I have ever had, but it suffices and it makes for a great break in the driving action. IMO

lived in MS for several years... Sauce can be over powering, but it was better than most places down and around the coast.
That being said, I haven't been in at least 2-2.5yrs. Ever since they went all reality show like...

They got their 5 minutes of fame.
It's worth the experience and taking in the ambience.
Food was ok not outstanding.

You nailed it!

Double corn pudding for me with the Graveyard plate EVERY TIME.

Almost ALL of their sides are excellent.

I was in Mobile last weekend and went to Dick Russell's BBQ on Hwy90/Gov't on Sunday for lunch.

Place was PACKED- sat next to a family with the 2 boys wearing Brother Martin t-shirts- took about 15 minutes to get a table.

The biscuits were excellent, but the meat was just ok- pork shoulder, brisket, and a quarter rack of ribs (the basic sampler).

It wasnt bad, but not great, and the bbq sauce had a ketchupy/vinegar taste.

I passed The Shed going and coming- had heard about it and was wondering if it was any good- I still might give it a try just to see for myself.

Thanks for the post!

Definitely doesn't deserve the hype and accolades it gets.

Next time, stop at the Brick Pit in Mobile.

If you can ignore all the Bama shite in there, it's the best BBQ I've had on the Gulf Coast. And I've been trying places down here for a while.
