People don't think much about kickers, but i think they are underrated.

numbers are from ESPN standard scoring

Gostkowski 176
Jordy Nelson(#11 WR) 173
Ryan Matthews(Tied #11 RB)175

Prater 169
Andre Johnson(#12 WR) 161
Frank Gore(#13 RB) 166

3rd place kicker Justin Tucker had 159

the top 10 kickers all had over 150 points

so the top kickers out performed Top 15 RB and WR

Interesting numbers. Two years ago I put actual thought into my Defense and Kicker in the draft and it paid off. Last year I just grabbed who I could and had a mediocre outcome.

Not saying that was the determining factor, but I'm sure it played a part.

That answers your question right there. Barely any deviation. The first place kicker rarely scores more than the 10th place kicker to make a difference in drafting a top one early.

So there is only 26 points separating the top kicker in the league and the last starting kicker on a FF roster. Not really worth using anything more than your second to last pick on.

If I were you, I would definitely draft a kicker before the 15th RB or 15th WR is off the board.

Profit!!

Its not about the total points the kickers score, its about the difference between the top kicker and the 10th kicker.

Top kicker had 176, 10th had over 150. not much of a difference so why not wait til the late and just snag whichever kicker is available

I'll often not even draft or buy a kicker and just pick one up right before the season starts. (if its a league that drafts kind of early)

This

I'd rather roster a guy that has a chance to win a starting job over a damn kicker.

You can stream kickers weekly based on their matchup, weather, stadium, and score as much as the top kicker over the whole season.

And you can do the same with defenses.

Thats why they arent worth anything more than late draft picks. If you pick a top kicker/defense early, you're going to have to start them vs bad matchups or add another one to your roster some weeks to avoid those matchups. Then you have to drop a position player to make room and carry 2.

it's just that simple. And it's almost unpredictable. Too many factors. You need the kicker of the team who can move the ball but struggles in the red zone. Good luck predicting that from year to year. I wait til my last pick and take the kicker of the best offense that's left

The answer is no. They are appropriately rated. Predraft, you need to know who the kicker is for each team. If a kicker gets a staph infection in preseason and gets replaced, you need to know that. As long as you know that you have by the last round drafted a kicker who is on a team and will start, that's pretty much enough.

In my experience, no one is overrating or underrating kickers. They are rated just about right.

To state the obvious, since there are 32 eligible kickers each week (a few less during bye weeks) and likely only 12 to 14 on fantasy rosters in any given league, there are always plenty available for pick up at the last minute-just in case your kicker strains his groin in Friday practice, for instance.

Living in Texas with a couple of cowboy fans in my league, I usually take their kicker just to frick with them. Or at least joke about it.

But to the op, it kinda depends on your league. I still wait until late to grab a kicker, but I have a league where kickers can score some good points.

I have 3 players who haven't paid up for Pelican talk league. Deadline is 7/31. You had the 2nd place votes for the last spot in the league so I wanted to see if you want to be on standby if someone doesn't pay by the deadline.
