In the last two days, I've watched 3 national food shows in prime time featuring Nola and surrounding areas. Travel the country and someone everywhere...anywhere...is trying to pitch Louisiana cuisine. And our food influences are worldwide ...can you say Tabasco?

Yet, we look elsewhere...almost always...for the country 's greatest food city. I'm sorry, but the country looks at New Orleans, and to agree the SoLa region, as the food capital of the nation. We underestimate our own back yard.

It's already happening. Denver is trying to negotiate direct flights to Mecca as we speak. Others will follow.

I'm pretty appreciative of New Orleans cuisine and food options.

South LA defines my cooking. I'm so happy I live in NOLA. Great, great food. Maybe it's not a bunch of Michelin starred restaurants, but I know that every night of the week I can go to a great restaurant if I so choose and not have to sweat having made a reservation a month in advance. That's awesome.

Otees, you stay in NOLA? Whereyat? I ain't never knew that.

I'm undercover. Since moving to "NoLA", these dumbass admins have been fooled into thinking I mean "New Orleans" instead of "North Louisiana", and I haven't been banned since.

And Cap, I do understand your point. But here's the counter...Neither New York, or San Fran, or any other food city that can be said to be a greater food destination will ever match Nola in one critical point. None of them will ever be the flagship of a truly unique American cuisine, as Nola is for South La cuisine. I believe the unique quality of Nola's food history and evolving food culture make it THE American culinary leader. JMHO

I pretty much only watch the cooking channel and food network. I have to be honest, I never see New Orleans featured.

More often than not, it's Breaux Bridge area that I've seen recently along with Mamou. Man Fire Food has a great episode about S. LA meat markets.
